Analysts are still generally optimistic about the prospects for the development of the retail industry. The impact of slowing economic growth and inflation on the industry has also attracted widespread attention.
Guotai Junan analyst Liu Bing and Xu Xiaofang pointed out that from the historical data, June and July is not the peak season for consumption. Why is consumption growth accelerated in 2008 in June and July? Based on the analysis of the sales volume of the wholesale and retail trade above the quota, overall consumption upgrading and upstream price pmission become the main reasons for the rapid growth of consumption.
According to the National Bureau of statistics, in July 2008, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 862 billion 900 million yuan, an increase of 23.3% over the same period last year. Zhang Xiaode, Deputy Secretary General of the China Public Economic Research Association and professor of National School of Administration, told the media that the Olympic Games had a stimulating effect on China's economy. However, after the Olympic Games, China's economy is still mainly influenced by macroeconomic policies and the trend of the global economy.
"In addition to the more volatile events in May, the market's pessimistic demand has not fallen sharply, because the long-term growth driving force of the industry still exists. If there is no malignant inflation or other macroeconomic deteriorations, we believe that the department stores as clothing and gold and silver ornaments and other commodity outlets still have a good demand environment." Jiang Hai said so.
Ouafi, chief analyst of GF Securities retail industry, is also optimistic about the retail industry in the second half of the year. "From historical experience, consumer demand will rise during the decline of CPI's real index. In addition, sales in the second half are generally better than in the first half. " It said that even considering the impact of economic slowdown, it would not be so fast in the retail industry. "In fact, moderate inflation is conducive to the growth of retail consumption, while the current incidence of hyperinflation in China is very small."
For supermarkets, because sales are mostly consumer necessities, inflation is relatively small, but because of the gradual decline of CPI, the growth rate of same store sales in supermarkets will be lower than in the first half.
