Trade Protectionism Should Be Paid Attention To In Textile Export

    2009/4/10 0:00:00 20

The financial times has recently published an article on protectionism. The subtitle is very special and interesting: "protectionism and the group of 20: do what I say, but do not repeat what I did."

If this sentence is plated in a literal way, it is exactly the opposite of what you do not want to do to others.

As for why, even in repeated reaffirming of protectionism against the group of 20, with the intensification of the financial crisis, protectionism continues to spread.

The World Bank recently reported that 78 protectionist measures have been put forward since the outbreak of the financial crisis, 47 of which have been put into effect.

In the group of 20, there are 17 countries.

In addition, in 2008, the number of anti-dumping sanctions increased by 20% over 2007, and the number of cases increased by more than 20% in the second half of 2008.

Many of those who hold high protectionism have always regarded themselves as the active defenders of free trade.

For example, the US $787 billion stimulus package is mixed with the terms "buy American goods". In addition, in order to protect domestic jobs, some companies in the United States have laid off workers, and first taken foreign labor.

Of course, this does not prevent Obama from stressing his position. "I want to send a clear signal. Now is not the time to take protectionism."

The same phenomenon has occurred in many other countries.

French President Sarkozy once said: "we must not be afraid to adopt an introverted policy and adopt protectionism in dealing with crises."

But in the protectionist measures, France also has many small moves. For example, France provides 6 billion euros for Renault and logo Citroen company. The premise is to ensure the employment of local French, which leads the two companies to pfer some jobs in Eastern Europe to France, causing a great stir inside the European Union.

In developed countries, some emerging and developing economies can not be insulated from protectionism.

According to the World Bank report, Russia has recently increased import tariffs on used cars. Indonesia has restricted the import of five categories of products to five ports, while India has implemented discriminatory policies on Chinese toys. The purpose is to protect domestic industries and restrict external competition.

Do leaders not understand the harm of protectionism?

    I must know.

At the just concluded London summit of the group of 20, leaders again reiterated their boycott of protectionism.

But promises are hard to put into practice.

PeterSutherland, former director general of the world trade organization, said that even if policymakers in the group of 20 were aware of the risks of protectionism, the pressure of domestic politics continued to spread protectionism.

The one or two little moves of one or two countries should not bring the whole world economy into collapse, but the outcome of protectionist competition is likely to lead to serious economic tragedies.

The trade war intensified the great depression in the 30s of last century, which is a classic example.

In opposition to protectionism, "lip service is not enough". It is revealed that many countries, in the current international situation, always have a lucky mind, always trying to lead by evil and beggar their neighbours, so as to achieve the goal of damaging others' interests.

At the moment when we need to work together, this mentality will no doubt only lead to more rampant protectionism. Trade barriers and non trade barriers will emerge one after another, eventually damaging their economic recovery.

On this issue, all countries should earnestly implement their commitments against protectionism.

So should developing countries, developed countries.

Because the victims of their protectionist measures are mainly developing countries.

Developing countries are not the makers of crises. Rather, they are the biggest victims of the crisis. They may still be attacked by the second wave of protectionism, and the developed countries have an unshirkable responsibility.
