Moscow Footwear Products Counterfeit Products Accounted For 60%

Vladimir Srepak, deputy director of the Moscow consumer market and services bureau, said in a speech at the conference on "preventing the destruction of the Moscow consumer market from illegal imports and counterfeit and shoddy products" held on 13 March in Moscow. In 2009, Moscow recorded more than 2000 criminal cases related to counterfeit and shoddy products.

According to Alexei Coriyakin, President of the Russian consumer association, the monitoring of 200 places selling light industrial brands in 4 administrative districts of Moscow showed that the counterfeit products in underground clothing and footwear accounted for at least 60%.

"However, some operators want to work honestly and diligently," he said. "They want to improve their professional and legal standards.

For example, the top executives of "dynamo", "Medved Corvo" and "Silver Tower" business center suggest their renters to correct the illegal behaviors discovered by social monitors.

Moscow City Duma news agency announced that representatives of government agencies and social organizations, as well as producers and entrepreneurs, signed the Moscow consumer market participants' integrity partnership statement after the meeting.

The document states the principles of honesty and morality in dealing with consumers and peers, the principle of strict compliance with existing laws in professional activities, and the principle of popularizing civic legal education.
