Domestic and export garment manufacturers have put pressure on the federal textile department to take action to limit soaring cotton yarn prices, and cotton prices have soared 30-35% in recent months.
The financial government took restrictive actions according to the recommendations of the Ministry of textiles.
However, yarn manufacturers and garment exporters responded differently to this decision.
Mr Ashish Bagrodia, chairman of the India Textile Industry Federation (NITMA), was shocked by the measures taken by the government. He said that the government had sacrificed the interests of the spinning industry to ease the difficulties of downstream enterprises. Compared with the competitive countries, the downstream enterprises had low productivity and disproportionate management and management expenses, thus inhibiting the development of the knitted apparel industry and making the industry totally uncompetitive.
Mr Shishir Jaipuria, chairman of the India Textile Industry Association, said that these measures were wrong prescriptions and could not cure the real diseases. He said that cotton prices were soaring and electricity prices and labor prices increased substantially. Spinning enterprises needed funds to solve these difficulties, instead of taking measures to make the sub industries of the upstream enterprises that had already been in trouble unable to survive.
Bangalore based lifestyle international Private Companies is a well-known exporter. Shivakumar, a senior buyer of the company, said: "yarn prices have been revised three times over the past three months. Yarn manufacturers are willing to export because export prices are higher, but at the same time, garment manufacturers and exporters are in trouble."
He said: "people must understand that the price of Chinese fabrics is far lower than that of India's fabrics. If we allow imported fabrics with lower import tariffs, our production costs will be greatly reduced.
We must also understand that the clothing industry is a labor-intensive industry, and the government should take the initiative to do the right thing, by revoking incentives to save jobs in the garment industry. "
