Anna - Su'S Most Dazzling Chinese Woman Designer
Reporter: your design is very feminine and looks like dolls, but rock and roll elements will be interspersed. What's behind this story?
Anna: people like Anna Sui because all the elements of it are sweet and feminine elements. They are very nostalgic, or fashion elements, such as I have always tried to incorporate rock and roll elements into design.
The line between good girls and bad girls is always fuzzy. All elements form the "Anna Sui" in people's eyes.
None of the products printed on my name came from the world of Anna Sui.
When people buy lipstick, they should be as excited as buying Anna Sui's skirt, otherwise it is my job's dereliction of duty.
Reporter: what kind of perfect woman do you have in mind?
Anna: should be an interesting, hard working, charismatic but not too serious woman.
For example, I always liked the rock style of Anita Pallenberg (Anita parry Berg), and she was also my Mousika goddess.
She is still beautiful, but what I remember most is that she is so beautiful in the movie "Performance" (psychedelic performance).
(and all her photos at that time).
I always liked The Rolling Stones, Anita is an indispensable member of the band.
Years later, when I finally saw her, I was very nervous. Later, we became good friends.
Reporter: it took you almost ten years to achieve today's success. What do you support when you are in trouble?
Anna: I have always been a very practical designer. I know the difference between fashion show and clothes that customers really buy.
I can know what women really want from my store.
At the fashion show, my costume styles and accessories are very exaggerated, but you will find that there are always beautiful skirts or shirts.
The best thing for me is that someone said to me, "I have a skirt that I bought at you ten years ago, and my husband praises me every time I wear it."
There is no better compliment.
Interviewer: can you tell us something about your latest series?
The inspiration for the Anna:2010FW series is inspired by the American version of the arts and crafts movement, called "Art and Crafts" (1890-1925), which was a movement of traditional craftsmen and craftsmen who directly opposed large industrial production in the industrial revolution.
After the study, I paid particular attention to Pewabic tiles, Roycroft design, Mercer tiles, Stickley furniture, Rookwood ceramics, and Chales Rohlfs furniture and Greene-and-Greene architecture.
The whole series of colors is like the brick color system used to glaze the Pewabic tiles.
Reporter: you are called "never cater for other people's designers". What do you think of it?
Anna: I have my own drums, and I create my own style (iconic rose patterns, butterflies, black and purple, new art, rock, nostalgia, humour...)
This allows my work to be identified at a glance.
Reporter: what do you look like on weekdays?
Anna: most of the time I will wear my own designs, but I am a Shopaholic.
I like to collect clothes from today and Vintage designers.
I also like a lot of accessories, but I never go out without a sign of red lipstick.
Reporter: have you traveled anywhere lately?
Did you find anything pleasantly surprised during your trip?
Anna: I just came back from Syria.
I was fascinated by pearl and mother shell furniture.
Reporter: are there any plans for cooperation recently?
Anna: I am working with Jack White (Jack White is a musician, from the band The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and Raconteurs). We have just created a "T-shirt" T-shirt, and I am now designing a uniform for his two female salesmen in a music store in Tennessee.
Reporter: do women of different ages have different restrictions on dressing?
Anna Sui: my mother and my niece (now they can wear their clothes) will wear my designs.
My style has nothing to do with age. I pay more attention to spirit and attitude.
Reporter: do you have any brand you like very much?
Anna: now I like Lanvin, Sacai and Marni very much.
So far, the birth and development of Anna Sui brand can almost be regarded as the growth experience of Anna Sui herself.
She seems to be born to become a fashion designer, a goal that has been embedded in her mind since childhood.
At the age of 4, she was fond of tinkering with dolls at home and tailoring them with all kinds of cloth.
Under her bed is a thick book, now known by the famous photographer Steven Meisel, as "genius picture book", which is full of beautiful pictures collected by Anna from various places -- beautiful clothes, models, interior design, decoration, and other pictures, and of course, there is little of her hand-painted creation.
With his parents' expectation of becoming a doctor, Anna Sui, whose academic record was excellent, went to the dream New York Parson design school after graduating from high school.
In second years, she got the opportunity to work with Charlie s Girls and Erica Elias with some designs on her resume.
Later, her sportswear for the brand was designed by the famous Macy department store, and because of this, she boarded the Time and had to choose to quit her job at that time.
In 1981, the beginning of the Anna Sui brand began in the apartment where she lived and spent 10 years there.
In the meantime, Anna spent every penny earned through other design work in brand management.
In the years before 1991, the fashion market seemed to be a decline in the 80s power and a strong era of super brand influence. People used to wear the same designer's fashion from head to toe, which is exactly what Anna Sui feared. How to compete in such a market with a new product brand has become a real problem before her.
However, it seems that Anna Sui is doomed to succeed, and the time and place also come under the circumstances of people and circumstances.
Because at a party in the summer of 91, Anna noticed that many models and celebrities began to change.
They no longer dress up in suits or the same brand of clothing. Instead, they choose a lot of special design and accessories and single products.
Some models make necklaces, some with a retro style jacket or practical jeans.
Before that, Anna always heard people talk about everyone waiting patiently for their opportunities, so she thought, "this may be your chance."
Overnight, everything changed.
The absolute influence of super brands is no longer decisive, especially in the international market.
People want to explore New York designers who have different ideas and design ideas. Anna Sui said, "I think this is the time to help me build my career."
Before Jean Paul Gualtier's fashion show, Anna Sui and photographer friend Steven Meisel happened to be with Madonna, though they had never met before.
When he arrived at the show, the famous singer took off his coat and turned to Sui and said, "Anna, I want to give you a surprise."
Under the coat, Madonna is wearing clothes designed by Anna Sui herself.
Not only that, but in the background, Madonna borrowed the bracelet on the wrist of Anna at that time, then took a picture in front of a famous backstage photographer.
For the designer who is still quite young in the whole fashion stage, Madonna's action is undoubtedly a great encouragement.
Anna Sui also said: "she can choose any dress, but she chose my work.
Maybe I can also hold a fashion show, maybe more people really like them. "
The same is true. Our pop queen is not the only supporter of Sui. The design of the latter is also loved by a large group of models in the fashion industry, including supermodel Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista.
Besides, their two support is not just from work, but also a real close friend in their life.
One summer, when they were trying on Anna Sui in Paris, other models at the scene began to notice the brand that was not very famous at that time. A large number of models called from Paris to request Sui to mail her clothes.
The present included designer Karl Lagerfeld, who asked the people around him, "Anna?"
Who is this Anna? "
Talent, diligence, and tireless efforts have made Anna Sui create the best place and interest for herself, and that is why she grasped the coming day.
"One of the most exciting moments in my life is the first show of the brand."
Anna Sui said, "all my friends are together."
As Paul Cavaco, a well-known fashion editor in New York, said, "we will do it for you."
During the show planning stage, Anna's friends spared no effort to help her make the final success.
Linda Evangelista even helped the models change their clothes in the background and shouted, "hold on, speed up!
This is the show of Anna! "
At the end of the day, designers and friends cried.
"It is such a wonderful experience that it has played the greatest friendship between people. I really appreciate what my friends have done for me."
Anna Sui is very excited.
