EU's New Trade Partner Restrictive Measures Report Covers Textile Industry
The basic conclusions of trade protection and restrictive measures adopted in April 2010 include: in 2010, there is still a risk of second round of trade protection measures due to the increase in unemployment; the EU trade partners have introduced 73 trade restrictive measures, so that the total number of trade restrictive measures has been increased to 278, and the protection measures have not been curbed; less than 20 protective measures introduced in the crisis have been abolished, and the results are disappointing compared with the commitments made by the leaders of the G20 Summit; the customs union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, which started in January 1, 2010, will lead to the increase of most tariff levels in Russia. It is the most prominent protective measures example; it still needs to pay attention to the "purchase of domestic" measures and the discriminatory measures of government procurement; and G20 countries need to once again implement their commitments to cancel trade protection measures. Among the new protection measures listed in the report, 3 are related to China: (1) the supporting measures for wind power generator manufacturing industry are being planned; (2) the restrictions on foreign purchases in public procurement; and (3) the list of self innovation product certification issued in November 2009.
In the list of potential trade restrictive measures, 19 items are involved in China, including 1 in textile and clothing, telecommunications, raw materials and shipbuilding industry, 2 in steel and nonferrous metals, automotive and service industries, and 9 in other industries.
