Manorankin Mohanty: Professor of New Delhi social development committee, honorary member and co chairman of India Institute of Chinese studies, and visiting professor of Santa Barbara branch of University of California.

Mohanty received his doctorate from University of California at Berkeley, and began to teach comparative politics and Chinese Studies in Delhi University in 1969. He was director of the Research Institute for developing countries at Delhi University and retired in 2004.

Mohanty was a visiting professor at the University of California, the University of Oxford, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the University of Lagos.

Its main works include "Mao Zedong's political philosophy", "comparative study of Chinese revolution", "contemporary India political theory", "grassroots democracy in India and China" and so on.

Professor Manorankin Mohanty is a veteran figure in India's "old China".

Q: what do you expect from World Expo and Shanghai in 2010?

A: I look forward to Shanghai World Expo becoming the stage for China to demonstrate its brilliant industrial development. I hope World Expo will show China's products, technology and the remarkable living standards of the Chinese people.

For Shanghai, the great changes that have taken place in the past 30 years will provide a solid material foundation for the Expo.

In 2010, World Expo was a good opportunity for the Chinese people to share their achievements with the rest of the world after the Beijing Olympic Games.

Q: what is the significance of hosting such a grand international event for a developing country like China?

A: China is the first developing country to host the world exposition. This is a great honor.

This fully demonstrates that developing countries will gradually have the ability to share their products, technologies, knowledge and culture with the whole world.

A: World Expo is an opportunity for China.

While sharing the fruits of civilization with the world, China should also show this confidence and humanity through this opportunity.

Considering that the current global warming and social tension still exist, I think China should also promote the concern of environmental justice and social justice under the conditions of industrialization and industrialization.

Q: what is the significance of World Expo in promoting international cooperation, mutual trust and win-win cooperation under the background of globalization?

A: in 2010, World Expo naturally brought all kinds of personnel exchanges, sharing industrial information, and expanding investment and market cooperation.

A: China's international position is constantly improving. The successful hosting of World Expo will certainly further promote this process.

Over the past 30 years, China's rapid economic growth, urbanization further development, a large number of elimination of poverty, and achieved great achievements in infrastructure construction, these are the results of reform.

I think China should take advantage of the opportunities of World Expo to think about the major issues of China and the future of mankind as a whole, think about the future direction of China's development and think about how China's great achievements will serve the future goals of the Chinese revolution and Chinese civilization.

Q: what kind of influence do you think World Expo will have on Sino Indian Relations?

A: economic development and technological progress sometimes provide a soil for nationalism.

The two governments, academia and media should play an active role in promoting people to view development achievements correctly and guide public opinion orientation so as to develop mutually beneficial cooperation and mutual respect. Otherwise, the two countries will be dragged to the road of big power struggle in the traditional sense.

Nevertheless, India and China both have the power to restrict unfavorable trends in the history and current political realities.

It is hoped that World Expo will contribute to promoting the five principles of peaceful coexistence established jointly by India and China in 2010.
