It is the only university that has the whole silk industry chain from planting mulberry, raising silkworms, making silk, weaving silk, printing and dyeing and finishing to costume design and performance.

The complete silk industry chain of Soochow University is pregnant with the only national engineering laboratory in Jiangsu province and the domestic textile and silk industry.

Its silk research ranks the top in the national universities.

Soochow University has made full use of this unique advantage and has carried out many pioneering studies in the field of silk research and development, and has achieved fruitful results and has taken the lead in industrialization.

The main disciplines of textile science and engineering are doctoral and post doctoral mobile stations in textile science and engineering; textile science and engineering is a key discipline in Jiangsu province; textile engineering is a national key discipline and a national specialty construction point.
