Is Nike More Environmentally Friendly In Your Clothes Than Adidas?
Nike in your sneakers is more environmentally friendly than Adidas? Soon you can find a way to verify it. 100 clothing brands and retailers are developing a software to measure the environmental impact of clothing and shoes. The software will monitor the whole process from raw materials to garbage, hoping to develop a system of eco value index on clothing labels or packages.
The purpose of this index is to expect all manufacturers to take account of environmental impacts in product design.
Sustainability has attracted public attention and has become a powerful way to attract consumers to try new products.
But there are no luxury brands to join the program. The brands currently added include: Levi 'S, Nike, Target, BrooksSports, Adidas, Timberland, REI, Columbia, Patagonia and so on.
Although the clothing industry has not caused the greatest pollution, its production process will still have a great impact on the environment.
There are many chemicals in the leather making process. Synthetic fibers, such as polyester fibers, also release a lot of volatile substances.
In 2008, Americans threw away $124 million of textiles, much larger than other forms of waste.
This ecological index system will monitor the entire life cycle of products: raw materials - production - Transportation - processing.
For example, if the Levi s brand launched the recycling plan to take back the old jeans of consumers, it would get the corresponding points.
