Demand for Christmas products soared
It is understood that in Europe and the United States, from the fourth Thursday of November each year (Thanksgiving Day) to Christmas, this is the most popular season for the sale of all kinds of goods in a year, and is widely regarded as the "Christmas economy" cycle.
During this period, the consumption ability of people in Europe and the United States has been released most, so the performance of "Christmas economy" is considered to reflect the basic attitude and trend of consumption in Europe and the United States, and for Chinese export enterprises, it is also a "wind vane" to detect changes in the external demand and cooling.
Although the European and American economies are not yet completely out of the shadow of the financial crisis, demand for Christmas products in Europe and the United States has recovered rapidly.
"Our company's export business of Christmas lighting products this year has increased by at least 20% compared with last year, but orders are fragmentary and business is not good." Wu Ningyin, a saleswoman of Ningbo Lian Yuan import and export company, is a salesperson specializing in the export of Christmas lights. She said that the demand for Christmas articles in Europe and the United States increased rapidly this year. Due to insufficient staffing, many orders could not be produced, and could only be postponed. "From April to August this year, the order came very fast, and we could not make the whole product at once. The delivery cycle of the product has also been extended for half a month." Wu Ningyin said.
Like Wu Ningyin, he felt the warmth of "Christmas products" and Chen Jing. Chen Jing is the general manager of Ningbo Liyang import and export company, which produces and exports Christmas gifts. This year, Li Yang's Christmas orders rose sharply, at least 30%.
The statistics of Ningbo customs also prove this point. According to the statistics of Ningbo customs, Ningbo exported $61 million 360 thousand of Christmas products in 1~10 months, an increase of 38.4% over the same period last year. In September, exports amounted to US $18 million 360 thousand, an increase of 42.6% over the same period last year, and exports of Christmas products in October were US $8 million 449 thousand, an increase of 66.4% over the same period last year. From the point of view of export, mainly exported to Europe and the United States, of which exports to the EU 28 million 960 thousand US dollars, exports to the United States 13 million 590 thousand US dollars, increased by 24.7% and 29.5% respectively, two of the total accounted for 69.3% of the total value of exports.
Some enterprises dare not answer.
Despite the rapid increase in demand, some export enterprises in our city have been trapped in the "single dare not answer" dilemma.
"This year, our order volume has increased a lot more than last year, but the actual harvest has not increased significantly." Xu Lifeng, director of Ningbo Yinzhou rye industry and Trade Co., Ltd., told reporters that "in July and August of this year, because of the shortage of manpower, it was too busy to do so, so some orders were afraid to receive. In the two months of September and October, raw material prices rose sharply, the RMB exchange rate fluctuated greatly, and profits could not be guaranteed at all.
It is understood that the Swiss industry and Trade Co., Ltd. is a professional baby and Yam products, labor combination sets of handicrafts, DIY handicraft manufacturers, consumer demand from the Christmas cycle accounted for more than 50% of the company's export demand.
"Our export price has risen by 5%~10%, and our customers have accepted it, but the raw material price is too unpredictable, so our profit is still not guaranteed completely, and some orders are not making money." Ningbo Lian Yuan import and export company salesperson Wu Ningyin also said so.
Reporters learned from other foreign trade companies that the prices of Christmas products were determined six months in advance, while the peak period of production and export was concentrated in September and October. During this period, raw material prices increased considerably. Some foreign purchasers disagreed with the increase of export prices, making many Ningbo export enterprises busy in the "Christmas economy" but did not earn the corresponding profits.
Transformation to start a "year-round business"
Although the transformation and upgrading has become the consensus of foreign trade people, how to upgrade and upgrade the Christmas products with low entry threshold and strong cultural traditions in Europe and America is also a great consideration.
"How can you develop Christmas products, such as Christmas trees, pendants and string bells, to produce products with high technology and high added value? It's really hard to create new products." Facing the pain of raw material prices and the difficulty of being unable to receive, there is some frustration in the production of a Christmas tree company in Ningbo.
However, some enterprises are already using their brains to cope with the new situation. Yinzhou Swiss Industrial and Trading Company began to extend its business vision to other traditional holidays such as Valentine's day, Easter and Halloween in the west, and designed and produced special combination of craft gifts for these holidays.
"We have made some improvements in materials, colors, patterns, and other aspects, and made product innovations, so that this combination of handicrafts that develop children's intelligence can be sold in western holidays and products, doing perennial business." Xu Lifeng said.
"Westerners' holiday consumption needs always exist, the key lies in how we develop the market." Chen Jing, general manager of Ningbo Liyang import and export company, is very confident. It is reported that Li Yang is now targeting other holiday design promotional products and advertising gifts in the west, hoping to open up new markets.
