Culture is a tolerant environment, and every designer works in culture.

What I am interested in is the common ground of the culture we have. It is part of the global design language.

I am also interested in the regional characteristics that make us different, because it makes us different from each other.

I believe it is important to understand and maintain individuality in culture, especially in today's era of global cultural integration.

It is very important for a designer to understand how culture affects him and his creation.

But why do you say that?

There are at least three reasons.

First of all, culture affects every one of us and shapes every individual.

Only by designing and expressing in their own cultural background can we ensure that we maintain our individuality in a world of cultural blending.

Secondly, the more you know yourself,

The more sensitive it is to other cultures.

Many designers work around the world.

A designer's task abroad is not to copy or copy the culture of that country, but to find a way to recognize and respect it as much as possible.

For example, when an architect designs a house abroad, it will be disturbing if he violates the cultural environment of that country.

This is a cultural imperialism, an unwelcome external value.

But foreign things are not always bad.

Communication with different ideas often brings good results.

Culture needs an open space to grow.

Third, we need to understand the laws of cultural operation.

Design, like any other creative work, must follow the rules.

After understanding the law, we can pcend and break it creatively.

Perhaps my last point of view about pcendental law is related to the influence of western culture I have been receiving for a long time.

For example, I know very much about surrealism in twentieth Century.

How does exercise affect my writing?

Surrealism is based on the collision of two different cultures or ideas.

When a rule system was overthrown, the inspiration for me was created.

Develop a unique way of thinking.

What I am interested in is how to think and how to get a good idea as a designer.

The design requires us to develop a unique way of thinking, which covers two aspects: logic and intuition.

If there are too many rigid logical things, our design will lack soul and personality.

Too much intuitive thinking can lead to the lack of rigour and structure in creation.

Creativity exists between rationality and sensibility. It exists between logic and dream. It exists between respect for information and poetic imagination.

This is just like the relationship between negative, yin and Yang.

It is an order in harmony and balance.

For a designer, skill and judgment are another aspect of his creative thinking.

In order to make skills and judgment gradually turn from memory and unconsciousness into their own intuition, they will not be disturbed by too much reason at last.

What I said above is actually a kind of thinking.

Thinking: it exists between pure logic and intuition, and exists between reality and Utopia.

For me, this two dollar thinking runs through my whole design work.

This kind of two element thinking seems to be based on human instincts and intuition.

This is somewhat difficult to understand. We can better understand it from the opposite side: for example, bright and dark, male and female, sun and moon, close and open, big and small, happy and sad.

The characteristics of a thing can be easily understood when its opposite appears.

Duplication in design is superfluous.

We emphasize the difference between things in order to better highlight its significance.

Therefore, if we want to spread our work more effectively, we must insert some new things into it and break some of them, so that we can attract people's attention and let others understand the meaning of things you express more clearly.

Breaking is very important for creative thinking.

Similarity in design is equivalent to excess.

If your work offers visitors something that visitors expect, then this expectation will lead to invariable and poor.

So we think repetition and repetition will lead to insipid taste.

I am based in Australia and work in Asia as a whole.

In my work abroad, I often look at other cultures through my native culture.

This may sometimes be at risk of making mistakes.

But foreign designers may use open thinking and rational methods to create meaningful designs for non indigenous cultures.

Perhaps some new ideas are only outsiders can think of.

Changing the world of change

With regard to the specific skills of design, I think fonts are the basic means of graphic design, and almost all visual communication needs fonts.

The design of fonts is a major job for me as a designer.

Abstraction is often my way of writing.

Extract the essence so as to recognize, evaluate and reinterpret.

The geometric shape and simplicity of objects are also my personal style.

I often use a reduced method to maximize the power of an idea or image.

This can achieve twice the result with half the effort.

Minimalism should not be used as a form of style.

It is just to make a concept clearer and to express the strongest meaning with the least energy and material.

Finally, I would like to say that the world is not always logical. The world is unpredictable, uncertain and even blind.

If you not only use rational methods, but also use experimental, temporary, marginal, intuitive methods, and use opportunities to combat logic, you will take the lead in the face of the world.

The works should allow people to surpass the rules and improve the human soul.
