    It has unexpected peculiar properties, such as ceramics or magnetization that can be controlled by making them.

    But scientists have not been able to find these properties by understanding the structure of nanoparticles.

    However, a report from the popular science website in February 24th (Beijing time) said that a joint research team from Europe has now managed to obtain three-dimensional color images of nanoparticles, allowing them to count the number of atoms and understand how these atoms are arranged.


    The researchers used the special electron microscope of the Laurence Berkeley National Laboratory.

    The resolution of the microscope is higher than that of the single atom, and the atomic structure of the nanoparticles can be clearly amplified.

    They tilt the aluminum based silver nanoparticles on the electron beam to capture the image; then build a model based on these images, and reconstruct the three-dimensional image of silver nanoparticles by the algorithm, and plot the composition of all 784 atoms in the silver nanoparticles in detail.


    Marta Russell, of the Federal Institute of technology in Zurich, Switzerland, said that up to now, they had been able to use various photographs taken from different angles to show the outline of the nanoparticles.

    But this achievement can help determine which atomic structures are most suitable for different applications, such as medical devices, drug delivery systems, etc.


    The three-dimensional images obtained can also provide a way to study how to use nanoparticles to imitate viruses or pmit vaccines.

    Coincidentally, two independent research groups announced their breakthroughs in these two areas in February 23rd.

    Scientists from the Emory University used biodegradable polymer materials to successfully produce nanoparticles that mimic many different bacteria or viruses in size and composition, and activated two different parts of the immune system in mice, enabling them to have terminal immunity; and the new nanoparticles developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists can deliver safe vaccines for the treatment of AIDS and malaria. These nanoparticles are actually fat balls, which can carry artificial versions of viral proteins, thereby stimulating a strong immune response in the body.


    Now that there is a way to shoot a nanoparticle image, scientists may be able to learn more about how nanoparticles can play their own functions on the atomic scale.
