EU Sets Up Trade Barriers To India'S Textile And Clothing Exports
The government of New Delhi said today that the European Union (EU) has increased the export of textiles and clothing to India -

"Yes, the European Union has increased protective barriers against exports of textiles and clothing in India, such as labels, certification and REACH (registration, assessment, authorization and restriction of chemicals)," said Cindy, Minister of Commerce and industry in India (Jyotiraditya Scindia) in a written reply to the Federal Institute.

"These issues will also be discussed at the next India EU Joint Working Group on textiles and clothing conference," he added.
Cindy said that the Ministry of textiles is also formulating and implementing the code of social responsibility that will be followed by all sectors of social responsibility, so that the textile and garment industry will make their own views on these norms.
The code will be built on top of global standards, including global accreditation, testing, assessment and development guidelines.
The EU group of 27 accounts for about 30% of the total volume of textile exports in India.

Bilateral negotiations on ambitious free trade agreements began in 2007 and are expected to end by the end of this year.
