Design style
Wu Haiyan's works are permeated with a strong "national complex". Her love for national culture can be traced back to her schooldays. In the summer of her junior year, she came to Dunhuang. At the end of the desert, Wu Haiyan is deeply shocked by the colorful costumes of the Chinese nation displayed in a Dunhuang murals. She finds the source of artistic life: "our costume design only conveys the essence of Chinese culture in order to charm the world stage." Wu Haiyan began to consciously "accumulate" elements of traditional Chinese clothing. The first appearance of flying was the first China International Youth costume designer competition in 1993. She won the only gold medal in the contest, and was honored by the China Fashion Art Museum.

Since its establishment in 2000, Beijing Wu Haiyan textiles and garments (Design) Co., Ltd. (WHY DESIGN) has completed the management and design contents and procedures of the design service system. There are six workshops: fashion trend research, fashion design, home textile design, pattern design, image design, exhibition design and so on. They provide design services for clothing, home textiles and pattern brands in Britain, Australia, the United States, Japan and France. For domestic famous clothing brands: Taiping bird, Shun Mei, Kai Xi Ya, Wahaha, Jin Hongda and other different design services; for the famous domestic textile brand dream LAN, Xiang Xie Li, Meng Jie, Vico, Feitian and other design services; for the famous domestic fabric brand: Pan Jia, yiefa, Wuxi natural textile, Otas, Central Asia and other design services. We successfully designed the costume for leaders of the Boao forum for Asia in 2002, and carried out the image design for TV, dance dramas and evening hosts. At the same time, adhering to the basic research work of fashion and home textiles fashion trend prediction, we have won the provincial awards and have declared the national annual topic.
WHY DESIGN design studio adheres to the difficult path of teaching design market research, trains a large number of professional design talents for the society, persists in taking art as the leading design, designs and leads life as the goal, and takes the service consciousness of "first-class brand design" to set up the image of a "design brand".
In October 2005, the Hangzhou studio was set up. It is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China's raw material and processing base. The design team also has a group of young fashion designers. The designers here are responsible for the production process and product merchandising after receiving the design works of Beijing design company.

With numerous award-winning works, Wu Haiyan walked from the West Lake to the stage center of Chinese fashion design art and produced a "Chinese melody" on the world T flyover. The spotlight of honor has been following her. 17 years of art experience, Wu Haiyan summed it up as "life changing".
Wu Haiyan once said: "fashion culture, under the trend of world culture, fashion week brings a good opportunity for communication. The inheritance of fashion art needs to be innovating from the accumulation of national elements to the integration of ethnic customs, fashion and personality. Fashion Week promotes the combination of design and industry, and improves the innovative ability of fashion and industry. Only by conveying the essence of Chinese culture can we fashion the charm of the fashion on the world stage. Fashion publishing has inspired designers not only through a carrier of clothing, but also with stage lighting and coordination. The designer's unique style reveals the conjecture and description of color materials and clothing styles through the release to the Chinese fashion industry and fashion audiences, and gives a personal statement on the process of brand promotion and the realization of fashion trends.
The personal brilliance of the stage did not satisfy Wu Haiyan. She said that China needed a large number of fashion designers. Compared with personal creation, she pays more attention to the inheritance of clothing art. In the early 1980s, Chinese clothing enterprises sprouted everywhere, but clothing education lagged far behind. Wu Haiyan came to the stage without a Chinese textbook. "Our generation is destined to be a road paving stone." She said so.
