Consumer Prices And Clothing Category Increased By 4.22% In Macao In May 2011
According to the statistics and Census Bureau of Macao, comprehensive consumption in May 2011
price index
(109.46) an annual increase of 5.19%.
The increase was mainly driven by the rise in the price of eating out and gasoline.
In the 12 months ended May 2011, the composite consumer price index increased by 4.09% over the previous period, while the CPI of category A and B increased by 3.69% and 4.26% respectively.
Compared with May 2010, the most obvious categories of goods and services were pportation (+11.00%), miscellaneous goods and services (+8.69%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (+6.80%) and medical care (+6.54%), mainly due to the rising price of gasoline, air tickets, LPG and gold ornaments, and the increase in charges for out-patient, outgoing meals, hairdressing and beauty services.
On the other hand, the price index of communications fell by 8.18% per annualized year.
In May 2011, the CPI of category A (108.53) and class B (109.84) increased by 4.75% and 5.37% respectively.
In May 2011, the composite consumer price index increased by 0.66% on a monthly basis.

In the first five months of 2011, the composite consumer price index increased by 5.03% over the same period in 2010, while the category A and B consumer price indices recorded an increase of 4.68% and 5.21% respectively.
The Composite CPI based on the period from April 2008 to March 2009 reflects the impact of price changes on the overall population of Macao.
The CPI represents about 50% of households, with an average monthly expenditure of between 6000 and 18999 yuan, while the class B consumer price index represents about 30% households. The average monthly expenditure is between 19000 and 34999 yuan in Macao.
