Nike And Other Brands Are Directed To China To Discharge Toxic Products.
Recently, a report released by environmental protection Greenpeace released by the international environmental protection organization, "China's water pollution survey of poison global clothing brand", said two suppliers of famous clothing brands including Nike, Adidas and Lining discharged environmental hormone substances to China's rivers.
The report has pushed multinationals into the whirlpool of suspected environmental pollution to China.
Famous brands of "water pollution"
The truth is whether the "water pollution" incident has been exposed, or the "water" of the textile industry and even the "water" of the multinational companies have been muddled. Two Chinese clothing materials suppliers involved in the report are listed companies in Ningbo, Zhejiang. Youngor And Zhongshan Guotai dyeing and finishing Co., Ltd., located in Zhongshan, Guangdong (hereinafter referred to as Cathay Pacific).
On the evening of July 13th, YOUNGOR issued a public statement saying that the report of "Greenpeace" is inconsistent with the facts.
On the 14 day, Cathay Pacific's official website issued a special statement, which said the report was not in line with the actual situation. The statement said that the water samples sampled and tested were not Cathay's water samples; Cathay's sewage accords with national emission standards and international standards. Meanwhile, Guangdong environmental protection department official also told Xinhua on 14, an interview with Xinhua news agency that the sewage discharge of Cathay Pacific was not unusual.
On the 15 day, Nike and Adidas people responded in an interview with the media. They acknowledged that they were currently working with two factories in Zhejiang Province, namely Ningbo YOUNGOR Knitted Underwear Co., Ltd. and Ningbo YOUNGOR sportswear Manufacturing Co., Ltd., but only cut and sew the products. There is no production process of chemicals used by Greenpeace.
Today, when a reporter telephoned Nike, Adidas, Lining Three companies in the three garment Brand Company said they had responded to the incident, but declined to respond to the contents for further explanation.
Dyeing and printing is most likely to cause pollution.
Greenpeace said that since last spring, they have sampled the wastewater emitted by YOUNGOR Cathay several times, and sent samples to Greenpeace research laboratory in Exeter University, UK and the Omegam independent environmental analysis laboratory in Holland. It was found that the main toxic and harmful substances in waste water were nonylphenol (NP), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). These substances interfere with the endocrine of organisms, are toxic to the reproductive system, and have an impact on the immune system and the liver. Studies have shown that these substances are extremely harmful even if they are small in amount.
A textile industry insider told reporters that pollution is likely to appear in the printing and dyeing process of garment processing. Nonylphenol (NP), one of the main uses, is used as textile auxiliaries. It belongs to endocrine disrupting chemicals and is a carcinogen. At present, nonylphenol is not included in the organic pollutants of over 100 kinds of surface water in China. At the beginning of this year, nonylphenol was listed as a prohibited import and export material for the first time by the Ministry of environmental protection and the General Administration of Customs of China.
According to the data, perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) has the characteristics of oil repellent and hydrophobic, and is widely used in production. textile A large number of experts have found that PFOS has many toxic effects such as genotoxicity, male reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity, developmental toxicity and endocrine disruption. It is considered to be a kind of environmental pollutants with systemic toxicity. When perfluorooctanoic acid is heated to high temperature, it will decompose and release toxic gas, which will irritate the eyes, mucous membranes and skin.
According to the sources, there is no mandatory inspection requirement for the three substances in the current environmental monitoring in China, but the latter two substances are included in the environmental monitoring Directive before 2008.
Safeguarding rights after pollution
Once the pollution facts are confirmed by authoritative departments, who will compensate for the losses caused by pollution? {page_break}
The staff of the legal aid center of the pollution victims of China University of Political Science and Law said that if the pollutant discharge exceeds the standard, according to the seventy-fourth provision of the water pollution prevention law of the People's Republic of China, the discharge of water pollutants exceeds the national or local standards for the discharge of water pollutants, or the control over the total discharge amount of key water pollutants shall be ordered by the competent environmental protection department of the people's government at or above the county level within the limits of authority, and the Department shall pay a fine of two times or more than five times the amount of the sewage charge. Local residents may request the environmental protection department to carry out administrative penalties for the enterprise and carry out rectification and rectification until the legal discharge standards are reached.
The staff also said that if the waste water discharged by the enterprises pollutes the river, the breeding industry will be affected, and the production and life of the surrounding farmland irrigation and residents will be affected. The quantitative evidence should be collected. According to the sixty-fifth provision of the Tort Liability Act, the polluter should be liable for infringement because of the damage to the environment. The lawsuit was brought to the local court, including the environmental protection department's testing, which proved that the enterprises did discharge pollutants and the specific amount of losses. Or the injured people should ask the environmental protection bureau to mediate between them and demand compensation from the polluters.
