Bangladesh'S Domestic Textile Exports Increased By 96% In FY2011

Jalal Ahmed, vice president of the Export Promotion Bureau, said that home textiles are a promising industry with export revenue increasing year by year. He is confident that the home textiles sector can export $1 billion in 2011-12.

　　
The main reason, he explained, is that Bangladeshi products are cost competitive compared with China, the main competitor, because China's production costs are increasing.

　　
Industry insiders say the increase in demand for home textiles in Bangladesh is mainly due to insufficient production in China and Pakistan, the two major producers of household textiles.

　　
Bangladesh exports home textiles including bed sheets, bedspreads, pillowcases, cushion covers, curtains, carpets, quilts, kitchen aprons, gloves, napkins and tablecloths. The export countries are EU countries, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Japan and Dubai.
