    According to Tang Xiaoyan, academician of Peking University, textile industry has been listed as China's high energy consuming industrial sector in terms of power, steel, nonferrous metals, petroleum and petrochemical, building materials, paper making and other industries.

    Last year, the energy consumption of the high energy consuming sectors accounted for about 56% of the nation's total primary energy consumption.

    After the adjustment of industrial structure, it is expected that in 2020, the potential contribution of high energy consuming sectors, including textiles, to carbon dioxide reduction will reach 36 to 38 billion tons.


    Throughout the "carbon footprint"


    Not only does the textile produce carbon emissions during the manufacturing period, its "carbon footprint" extends throughout the entire production and consumption chain.

    Zhou Xiang believes that to reduce the carbon emissions of textiles, we must conduct a full assessment of the "life cycle" of textiles, including the use of raw materials, production, distribution, use, disposal and reuse of waste and other links.


    For example, if a garment is washed for one year, and once a week, the amount of carbon footprints left behind will be 1/3.

    Therefore, there are also low carbon knowledge in washing process, such as washing machine with 30 degrees of water temperature, washing and then drying, it can be 100 grams of carbon dioxide than 40 degrees of water temperature.


    On the other hand, natural fiber has much less carbon footprint than fiber.

    According to experts, the energy consumption of different types of fibers can be 25 times different. For example, flax is the 10 energy consumption unit. The energy consumption units of cotton, wool, viscose, polypropylene, polyester, acrylic and nylon are 55, 63, 100, 115, 125, 175 and 250 respectively.


    Carbon tax on carbon label


    It is generally believed that the warning line of carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere is 350 ppm units. If the stability is around 450ppm, the global warming will exceed 2 degrees.

    According to the latest value measured in July this year, the concentration has reached 392.39ppm.

    Tang Xiaoyan said, in fact, as long as the temperature rises from 1 to 1.5 degrees, the world's water shortage population will increase by 4 to 1 billion 100 million.


    To this end, countries use economic leverage to promote production and consumption reduction.

    At present, the Nordic countries and Holland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan, Australia and other countries have begun to implement carbon tax or energy tax policy, and the United States plans to levy carbon tax next year.

    Zhou Xiang expects that carbon dioxide tax will also be levied in China, which will be 10 to 20 yuan per ton of carbon dioxide.

    Textile as a carbon emission head is implementing quantitative measures of carbon indicators.

    As the first country in the world to deal with climate change legislation, the British fashion retail market has first put up carbon labels. Since then, more than 10 countries and regions have been launched.
