Jordan Will Increase The Quota Of Syria Footwear In The Local Market

Jordanian Minister of industry and trade Salim hazarala and the Minister of trade of Syria signed a summary of the preparatory meeting meeting of the two high-level mixed committees, and decided to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade and investment.

The minutes of the two countries' meeting include the cooperation mechanism to promote economic and trade exchanges between the two countries and to strengthen the role of the private sector in the economic and social development, as well as the intention to cooperate in customs, free zones, agriculture, scientific research and water conservancy.

The two sides also agreed to sign Syria's agreement to provide 50 thousand tons of wheat to Jordan.

The party also proposed amendments to the anti-dumping clause to facilitate the implementation of the free zone agreement signed by the two countries.

Jordan also said that from February next year, the quota of Syria footwear in the local market will be raised to 4 million pairs.

At the meeting, the two countries also discussed 12 protocols and memorandum draft, covering housing, construction, sports, industry, sewage treatment, culture, education, social affairs, vocational training, health, water conservancy and other fields.

In the 1-8 months of 2007, the volume of trade between the two countries increased by 33% to 415 million US dollars, of which Jordan exported 165 million 500 thousand US dollars to Syria.

Jordanian Minister of industry and trade Salim hazarala hopes that Syria entrepreneurs will seize the opportunity to invest and make use of the trade agreements signed between Jordan and other countries to develop the international market with Jordanian businessmen.

Syria's trade minister said that bilateral economic and trade cooperation has achieved positive results in 2006. The two governments will take positive measures to promote bilateral economic and trade exchanges.
