In 1985, the Chinese fashion delegation participated in the Paris International Fashion Fair for the first time. At that time, the Chinese delegation took part only as an observer, and was not qualified to perform on stage.

When a model wearing a banana shaped hat walked on the stage, the deputy director of a clothing Research Institute under the stage used four words to describe: the devil and the devil.

Speaking of the past, Tan An excitedly patted the table and said, "this is already the middle of the 80s. Our clothing industry is still like this. We can see that the industry is lagging behind."

After returning home, Tan An made up his mind to set up an international fashion and dress exhibition with Chinese characteristics.

Looking back on the unforgettable first CHIC, we can not help but recall the late 80s to the early 90s, and those sprouting up costumes show that they are integrated into a wave of billows, driving the rise of the Chinese garment industry.

To our surprise, in the early 90s of last century, a small town in Changshu, Jiangsu, hosted the peasants in Wang town.

China was still in the early stage of reform and opening up in the 90s of last century, and the changes in all walks of life almost covered the whole country.

Remembering the fashion exhibition before CHIC, Tan An is very familiar with the exhibition. Almost every exhibition at the early stage has his form: the 1981 national new clothing exhibition, the middle and old age clothing exhibition in Beijing in 1983, the clothing exhibition in five provinces and cities in 1985, the clothing exhibition in sixteen provinces and cities in 1987, the Dalian international dress festival in 1988, the Changzhou dress festival in 1992, the China Clothing Exhibition hosted by Shanghai clothing corporation, the clothing culture festival in Zhengzhou, the Tianjin Tianjin clothing festival, the Jiaxing Jiaxing clothing culture festival, and the first clothing festival of Huangshi.

Most of these seemingly large exhibitions were not carried on, but in Tan An's words, they were all "hammer and mortar business", but at the time, they provided many fashion brands with a platform for displaying products and business exchanges, and released a fashion trend for the poor Chinese clothing industry.

After nearly ten years of preparation, finally, in March 1991, Tan An officially started the preparatory work for CHIC.

Tan is very sorry for this: the early "one shot sale" exhibition has been forgotten by Chinese fashion people, but without the accumulation of energy accumulated by these exhibitions and the energy accumulated by law learning, there will be no CHIC that is full of vitality today. It is these energy reserves that will only make CHIC strong and vitality, thus setting off a revolution in Chinese dress culture and arousing the awakening of the individuality consciousness of China's garment industry.
