The four countries jointly issued the joint press communiqu on cotton field cooperation under the framework of WTO in Geneva.

China and the four cotton countries confirm that they will cooperate in the cotton field, including the establishment of bilateral cotton cooperation projects and the provision of excellent products.

Chen Deming, Minister of Commerce, said at the launching ceremony that China always understood and supported the demands of the four cotton countries to solve the cotton problem and was always committed to promoting the early resolution of the cotton issue in accordance with the Hongkong Ministerial Declaration.

China's assistance to the four cotton countries is responding to and participating in the WTO's "trade aid assistance" initiative and actively promoting the Doha round to solve the development problem. It aims to help African cotton four countries further enhance the capacity building of the cotton industry.

WTO director general Lamy attended the launching ceremony and said that China's initiative was the best declaration against trade protectionism in the stalemate of the Doha Round negotiations, which fully reflected the connotation of the development of the Doha round and added a bright spot to this Ministerial Conference.

Representatives of Benin, Mali, Chad and Burkina Faso attended the launching ceremony, thanking China for its help, and said that China's help would play an active role in its cotton production.

It is understood that China imports about 2000000 tons of cotton from abroad every year, and the African cotton producing countries, including the four cotton countries, are one of the main sources of cotton imports to China.

This cooperation will help improve the productive capacity of the main cotton producing countries in Africa, and facilitate the further development of cooperation between China and African countries in the field of cotton.

Chinese permanent representative to the world trade organization, ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Yi Xiao Jun, Vice Minister of agriculture Niu Dun and Assistant Minister of Commerce Yu Jianhua attended the ceremony.
