During the 3 day academic seminar, nearly 100 ethnic cultural experts and scholars from home and abroad gathered together to study "cultural heritage and cultural diversity".

The rescue, protection and innovation of the traditional costume of ethnic minorities in China has become the main topic of this seminar. The discussion includes the status of national costume in the cultural heritage, the protection and inheritance of national costume, social and religious, national costume culture, national costume and environment, ancient national costumes, etc.

In the study, experts and scholars believe that the current Chinese ethnic costumes are facing the impact of social modernization and the requirements of reform. Some traditional costumes have changed.

On the one hand, due to the constant abandoning of the old and new features of clothing, and the difficulty of keeping clothes themselves, the national costume owners do not realize their importance and so on. The loss of clothing and cultural relics in recent years is quite alarming. On the other hand, due to insufficient attention to the national costume, poor research conditions, large capital gap, and related legal policies have not yet been promulgated, a large number of cultural relics are collected and brought abroad by foreigners. This is a huge loss of the treasure house of Chinese national culture and art.

In view of this situation, on the one hand, we should actively save the clothing resources of ethnic minorities, so as to avoid the disappearance of some distinctive ethnic costume culture; at the same time, we should actively guide the minority people to carry out dress reform with purpose, organization and planning.

According to the introduction, Beijing Institute Of Fashion Technology, as the "garment industry and cultural base" of Beijing, has been committed to the protection of national cultural heritage for many years. It has built the only national costume museum with clothing as its theme, and collects and displays the costumes of 56 ethnic groups in China.

The "Xinjiang customs and clothing culture exhibition" shows colorful Xinjiang dress art and rich western national culture from various angles, such as objects, pictures and images.
