On the morning of October 10th, Lu Mingquan, a large cotton farmer in the village of Tsai Tsai, in the town of Tsai Chung, Nangong, took over cotton from the cotton picking farmers employed and weighed them one by one.

Lu Mingquan said that the average cotton harvest per mu is only 400 Jin this year, which is 90 Jin less than that of last year.

Like Lu Ming Quan, Zhang Heping of the village of Zhao Ming Qiao in Da Tun township of the city also feels this year.

"I have contracted 58 acres of cotton fields, and less than 500 Jin of Mu cotton seed harvest, less than 100 pounds per mu last year."

Deng Xiangshun, director of the Provincial Department of agriculture, introduced the main reasons for the reduction of planting area and unit production this year: cotton prices were substantially reduced.

In 2011, when the new cotton was listed, the price of seed cotton was about 4 yuan / kg, the lowest time was 3.5 yuan / Jin, which was only half of the highest cotton price, and the cotton farmers' income decreased and cotton planting enthusiasm decreased.

The two season crops are almost the same as those of one season cotton, but cotton planting is much bigger than grain production.

Four, cotton planting is more labor intensive.

Relative to grain production, low degree of mechanization and time consuming, pest control, pruning, picking and picking will cost a lot of labor.

The cost of cotton production is increasing, and the income of cotton farmers has been reduced.

Speaking of this year's income, Lu Mingquan said: "I rented 200 acres of land cotton, in addition to the per mu yield reduction, the cost of land leasing is not a small problem."

Lu Mingquan wrote an account to the author. He said that the cost of picking cotton only increased from 0.6 yuan / Jin last year to 1 yuan / Jin.

The wages of employees increased from 50 yuan a day last year to 70 yuan per day.

According to the current market price, the planting cost of 1200 yuan can be earned 400 yuan per mu.

He planted 200 acres of cotton fields, is expected to earn more than 80 thousand yuan, will be less than last year, more than 30 thousand yuan.

"Because of the increase in labor costs and the reduction of production, I will lose nearly 20 thousand yuan in revenue this year than last year."

Many cotton farmers reflect this year's decline in output and quality, though this year.

During the interview, the author learned that the new cotton purchase process is slow, and the low price cotton farmers are reluctant to sell.

"The current business situation is much more difficult than last year."

Ren Jiubing, manager of Nangong Hongtai cotton processing plant, said that on the one hand, cotton growers were reluctant to sell because of the small profit of cotton planting. At present, the company only bought 300 thousand kilograms of processed cotton seeds, a decrease of nearly 2 million kilograms from last year.

On the other hand, in terms of processing profit, the purchasing price of the enterprise is now 4.1 yuan per catty, and the purchase price is three yuan per ton this year, which is 20400 yuan per ton.

Wang Jun, general manager of Nangong Shichao textile company, said that at present, the seed cotton purchased by their enterprises is less than half of that of last year. Due to the decline of cotton and other agricultural and sideline products prices, the processing profit margin is too small, and all textile processing enterprises have no incentive to buy.

Wang Jun said that many cotton processing enterprises all hope that the price of cottonseed will rise in the future, and that the cotton farmers' psychological reluctance to sell will weaken, so that cotton processing enterprises will enter the normal production track.
