In the 1960s, Ermian had 2050 looms at the most, which was the largest cotton textile mill in Shandong Province at that time. "As soon as she entered the factory, she was assigned to the weaving workshop, which lasted for 30 years. At that time, it was very proud to be able to work in a large state-owned enterprise like Ermian. At that time, the idea was very simple, which was to work hard with all one's heart." Zhao Xiuying recalled that her daily work was to shuttle between looms to ensure the normal and accurate operation of the machine.     "If I am on the morning shift, I usually go out from about 6:30 in the morning to take over the shift at 8:00 in the morning and leave work at 6:00 in the afternoon. At that time, only 16 enterprises in the province could reach this production scale and level.

All employees over the age of 45 went home to wait for employment. At the age of 45, Zhao Xiuying was also forced to leave her job. "It's really boring to stay at home. At that time, she often went back to the factory to look at the factory and volunteered to help fellow workers work." Zhao Xiuying said that around 1996, because the factory was short of staff, she was re employed to work in the factory for more than a year, and formally retired in 1998. In the same year, Ermian compressed 141300 cotton spindles, completely ending 32 years of textile production and operation.


    In the second year after the shutdown, Ermian built a green supermarket on the basis of the original factory building, with a business area of more than 20000 square meters and more than 500 employees. It was the second large-scale supermarket in Jinan at that time, and its annual average operating income was nearly 100 million yuan in the three years before its opening. Later, in order to accommodate more laid-off workers, Shandong Greenland plastic steel profile market and Shandong photographic equipment market were expanded. In Zhao Xiuying's opinion, these are all deep pains. According to her introduction, many young workers who were left behind in the "downsizing and efficiency increase" had been laid off at home after the collapse of Ermian, and the enterprise defaulted on a large amount of wages and medical expenses. These people are now living in difficulty.


    Today, Zhao Xiuying's pension has been increased to about 2200 yuan per month, in addition to 80 yuan per month for model workers.
