Children'S Clothing Exported To EU Strictly Abide By Safety Regulations

In recent years, there are frequent appearance of children's clothing in the EU's non food quick warning bulletin. The European Union countries such as the United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary and other European Union countries have announced the children's garments such as Chinese jackets, suits and sportswear. The reason is that the children's clothing is not in line with European standard EN 14682. The common reason is that children's clothing under the age of 7 is designed, manufactured or provided with strings or functional and decorative ropes in the hood or neck area of children's clothing, resulting in the risk of suffocation for children.

The EU standard specifies the requirements for different parts of children's clothing under the age of 14.

It is specifically stipulated that no bands or ropes are allowed for the head and neck area of 0-7 year old children's clothing. Adjustable ends, shoulder straps, rope ornaments, etc. can not have a free end longer than 7.5cm.

EU is the second largest textile and clothing export destination in Ningbo and even the whole country after the United States. In 2008, Ningbo exported more than 31000 garments, amounting to 840 million US dollars, while the EU exported about 11000 batches of clothing, amounting to US $270 million, and its batches and amounts accounted for 34.5% and 31.7% of the total exports respectively.

As far as Ningbo is concerned, the failure rate of textiles and garments exported to Europe is 1.1%, and the task of ensuring the quality of textile and apparel exported to Europe is still arduous. In particular, the safety performance of children's clothing products does not meet the requirements.

Since January 1, 2009, a wide range of adjustment has been made in the catalogue of legal examination. In particular, some knitted products have been pferred into the legal examination catalogue. Knitted garments are widely used for children's clothing because of their excellent wearing performance. Over 90% of the children's clothing recalled and notified abroad are knitted garments. Therefore, it is particularly important to do well in the quality of children's garments newly pferred into law.

The inspection and quarantine department reminds children's clothing manufacturers: we must enhance the awareness of "product quality first responsible person", strengthen the awareness of product quality, improve the management level and improve the quality of products; all export garment manufacturers strictly organize the production according to the technical regulations and standards of the importing countries; attach great importance to the contents of the EU's new regulations on clothing safety, actively seek contingency measures, reduce export risks, actively contact the local inspection and quarantine departments, form a positive interaction between enterprises and enterprises, seek breakthroughs in technical difficulties, avoid the loss of economic losses and reputation caused by the recall or notification of children's clothing, and maintain the international status of children's clothing in China.
