"Ben" here is the original, which means "Ben Kesi". It is named after Japanese scholars who believe that this kind of Kesi represents the most original technical characteristics of Kesi, and it is the original Chinese traditional craft culture.

    TAweekly: What do you think are the differences between China and Japan in terms of the inheritance of Kesi skills? What do we need to learn from Japan?

    Wang Xiaoxing: Kesi has been spread to Japan for a long time, and has been well preserved in Japan. The Japanese call it "Kesi", such as Ming and Ben. In terms of the protection and inheritance of Kesi skills, Japan is better than us. Maybe they will not make a living, but they will never let the skills lose. This is where we should learn from Japan. However, while Japan is protecting its skills, it also has some problems, such as its conservative attitude towards traditional crafts, which has kept the crafts unchanged for many years and will not innovate, which is not conducive to market-oriented survival.

    TAweekly: Why did you and your father choose "Xuanhe" as the name of the institute?

    Wang Xiaoxing: "Xuanhe" is the year title of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty. Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty is very obsessed with Kesi and likes to make landscapes, birds and animals paintings into Kesi for appreciation. Historically, the Song Dynasty was also a period of great development and prosperity of Kesi technology. We went to Taiwan to exchange ideas, where we directly called Kesi "Song Kesi". We re use the name "Xuanhe" in the hope that we can reproduce the glorious era of Kesi in the Northern Song Dynasty.

    TAweekly: As the inheritor of this Kesi, what is your opinion on the future development of Nantong Benjisi and Suzhou Ming Kesi?

    Wang Xiaoxing: Nantong Benkesi and Suzhou Mingkesi take two different paths to survive in the market. Due to the difficulty of the skills, Ming Kesi has a wide range of inheritance, many enterprises or individuals are doing it, and has formed a cluster in Suzhou. However, due to the short recovery time of Nantong's Kesi, the technique is easy to learn but not refined. At present, Xuanhe is the only one in China, mainly focusing on customized works.

    In terms of products, because of its fast weaving speed and large quantity of light, soft and breathable materials, Ming Dynasty Kesi is mostly used as clothing and home textile materials. However, this Kesi has high requirements for cloth, great difficulty in weaving, small quantity and high price, so it is mostly used as a collection of arts and crafts.

    Wang Xiaoxing: Because the restoration of the Kesi technology has a deep relationship with Japan, and the domestic public has little knowledge of the Kesi technology, some even do not know it is textiles, mistaking it for paintings. For a long time, Japan was taking care of the Kesi business in Nantong. We are very famous in Japan. Both the official and the folk in Japan recognize and love the traditional craft of Kesi. In 1998, the Xuanhe Research Institute wove the party flag of the Democratic Party of Japan for the office of the leader of the Democratic Party of Japan, which shows the degree of recognition of the Japanese for Kesi.

    However, in recent years, the economy of cut silk has changed. On the one hand, due to the international financial crisis, Japan's demand for cut silk has declined significantly; On the other hand, with the increase of domestic people's understanding of Kesi and their recognition of its value, domestic orders for Kesi have increased.     Wang Xiaoxing: Indeed, the new media has played a great role in promoting the promotion of Kesi in China. In the decades since the restoration of this Kesi technology, few people in China have paid attention to it. After the opening of Xuanhe Kesi website, there have been single digit visits every day. However, with the promotion of the media, the number of people who pay attention to Kesi has gradually increased, the number of website visits has increased, and Xuanhe Kesi microblog has become a major position for us to contact with customers.

    Wang Xiaoxing: At present, the problem of the loss of artists in the Institute is very serious.
