The sixth revision of ISO9001, which was held in mid last month in Galway, will come to a close. The fourth "upgrade" of ISO9001, the world's most widely used quality management system standard, has completed the last opinion solicitation for Member States and has begun to form the final international standard draft (FDIS version).

According to the plan, the new version of ISO9001 international standard will be released in September next year.

As the most influential quality management system standard in the world, ISO9001 has undergone 3 revisions in 1994, 2000 and 2008 since its appearance in 1987.

According to statistics released in November ISO2013, more than 1 million 100 thousand ISO9001 certificates issued in the 2008 edition were issued worldwide.

As of the end of June this year, China has issued more than 24.9 GB/T19001 quality management system certification certificates, ranking first in the world.

Like other ISO standards, ISO9001 is reviewed once every 5 years to ensure that it keeps pace with the times and reflects changes in the use of the environment.

The revision of the 2008 edition of the ISO9001 standard has resulted in the establishment of a twenty-fourth working group by the international organization for Standardization (ISO), which requires each member country to recommend 2 registered experts.

China actively participates in the revision of the ISO9001 standard, recommends registration experts, and puts forward opinions at various stages of the revision of standards, which has drawn the attention of the drafting group.

Tian Wu, China's Standardization Research Institute, as a registered expert recommended by China, participates in the drafting of the new version of ISO9001, and is responsible for collecting and submitting Chinese opinions.

In an interview with the China Quality News reporter, she revealed that after 3 months of voting, the International Standardization Organization formally adopted the draft ISO9001:2015 international standard (DIS version).

This is an important milestone in the process of its revision.

A total of 72 valid ballots were received, of which 64 agreed, and the United States, Japan, Germany, Canada and other 8 voted against it. The voting rate was 89%, much higher than the passing rate of the stipulated 2/3 (66%).

The ISO standard revision process is divided into 5 major steps: the draft working group (WD stage), the draft Committee (CD stage), the international standard draft (DIS stage), and the final international standard draft (FDIS stage), officially issuing the international standard (IS).

The revision of ISO9001 has entered the FDIS stage.

The draft version of the new version of ISO900 at the DIS stage has been officially released.

The DIS standard takes into account the changes in the practice and technology of the quality management system since 2008. It is more likely to be applied in the service industry and small and medium enterprises. There are significant changes in form, structure and content, and is considered to be a quality management standard for the next 10 years.

Although the approved version of ISO9001:2015DIS is not the final version, it is still possible to take a look at possible changes in content: for example, risk based considerations throughout the standard, increase the requirements for the relevant leaders, no longer have the requirements for the management representatives, emphasize the process of obtaining qualified goods and services and customer satisfaction, do not require quality manuals, but clearly mention knowledge management, etc.

In the past 10 years, ISO has issued many management system standards, and a series of standards are being developed.

At the same time, many standards are based on ISO9001.

How to deal with the impact of changes in ISO9001 standards on other standards? Tian Wu said that the new version of ISO9001 adopts the general structure and terminology of management system standards, which not only improves compatibility with other management systems, but also facilitates user use.

The standard is revised. What is the enterprise going to do? Tian Wu said that the certification conversion period is 3 years. Before September 2018, the two versions of ISO9001 certificates are valid, and the enterprises need not worry.

Tian Wu recommends that enterprises that have passed the quality management system certification or implement the quality management system standard should understand the changes of ISO9001 and prepare to implement new requirements, make use of the opportunity of ISO9001 revision to improve business performance, integrate business operation activities with the quality management system process, integrate quality management system with other management systems, pay attention to those documents that are not mandatory or do not add value, make full use of the opportunity of ISO9001 version changing to improve the quality management level of the organization.
