3D Printing Into Fashion Trend For Future Fashion Industry
In the long history, clothing and technology interact and promote each other.
The mechanization of textile production led to the industrial revolution; as an early human interaction tool, the punch card was invented in eighteenth Century and was first used to control textile machines.
So it may not sound so strange that we may use 3D printing technology to make clothes in the future.
Designer Danit Peleg has recently joined the ranks of exploring the potential of 3D print clothing. She has designed five sets of 3D print garments, and these garments can be made entirely through home 3D printers.
After trying the hard plastic filament commonly used in household 3D printers, Peleg found a tough flexible material FilaFlex.
Coupled with the new microporous structure conceived by 3D printing researchers, Peleg used this material to create a textile similar to lace.
Peleg prints these fabrics at Witbox, which sells for $1800.
Peleg is not the first designer to devote himself to the fashion design of 3D printing.
Lei Feng has introduced an elegant 3D print dress (below). It gives people the impression that they are made of cloth.
The design of Peleg shows the diversity of the appearance of 3D print clothing.
Some of the costumes are very trendy, and the complex triangles on models are similar to futuristic skyscrapers, while others are more normal.
The appearance of these garments looks different from that of traditional fabrics, but this difference is not very noticeable.
In public places, these clothes may not have a recurrence rate. For 3D print clothing, this is quite a success.
Of course, this 3D printing clothing revolution will not come soon.
Peleg found that it took about 24 hours to print a A4 size plastic fabric, and eventually she had to use several 3D printers to make the costumes before the first show.
In general, each garment takes nearly 400 hours to print.
However, for Peleg, the most important purpose of this project is to test the availability of 3D print clothing. In this respect, the project has been successful.
Peleg wrote: "I am very happy to be able to create without any intermediate links.
I can design and make materials myself, and everything can be done at home.
