EU Will Issue Related Ban On Textiles

Textile enterprises must pay attention to the new injunction issued by the European Union.

Reporters learned that the European Union recently drafted an amendment to the REACH regulation to prohibit the content of nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (NPEO) in excess of 0.01%.

In the EU market, the draft is expected to be implemented this year, with a pitional period of 60 months.

It is understood that NPEO is currently widely used in various industries such as detergents, emulsifiers and surfactants.

Studies have shown that NPEO has toxicity and carcinogenicity to mammals and aquatic organisms, and NPEO acts as a female hormone, which is harmful to normal hormone secretion in human body.

The amendment stipulates that the NPEO content in textiles should not exceed 0.01% (100 mg/kg), and the textile is defined as a product whose fiber content exceeds 80% (weight ratio). This definition is consistent with the EU textile label regulation requirements.
