US Cotton Exports Decreased By 5% In 2015/16

According to the US Department of agriculture's February forecast of global production and demand, US cotton exports decreased by 5% in 2015/16, and the end of the stock rose.

Globally, global consumption and imports have been reduced this year.

Cotton output and domestic consumption have not changed, and export volume has been reduced by 500 thousand to 9 million 500 thousand packs, mainly due to the sharp decline in China's imports over the same period last year, leading to a sustained downturn in US cotton exports.

The US cotton end inventory is estimated to be 3 million 600 thousand packages, and the inventory consumption ratio is 27.5%.

The average farm price in the United States this year is 58-61 cents.

National cotton production data show that in 2015, the total output of cotton in China was 5 million 605 thousand tons, a decrease of 574 thousand tons compared with 2014, a decrease of 9.3%.

In 2015, Xinjiang's cotton output was 3 million 503 thousand tons, accounting for 62.5% of the total in the country, 3 percentage points higher than that in 2014, and the regional superiority of cotton production was further enhanced.

According to Hou Rui, Senior Statistician of the rural Bureau of the National Bureau of statistics, the cotton planting area in China was 3 million 799 thousand hectares (56 million 984 thousand mu) last year, a decrease of 423 thousand and 400 hectares compared with that in 2014, a decrease of 10% over the same period last year, resulting in a reduction of 619 thousand tons in terms of planting area.

According to different regions, the main cotton areas of the Yellow River and Yangtze River decreased more last year.

Among them, the cotton planting area in the the Yellow River River Basin decreased by 182 thousand and 900 hectares, a decrease of 14.8% compared to the same period last year. The output per unit area decreased by 30.5 kg (2.03 kg / mu) per hectare, and decreased by 2.8%; the total cotton output decreased by 231 thousand tons, and decreased by 17.2%.

The cotton area in the Yangtze River Basin decreased by 170 thousand and 500 hectares, a decrease of 17.8%; the output per unit area increased by 63.3 kg per hectare, increased by 5.8%, and the output decreased by 136 thousand tons, down 13.1%.
