    Down Jacket Luxury Moncler Revenue Grew 18% In The First Quarter

    Moncler SpA (MONC.MI) has strong performance in the Asian market, but sales in Europe and the United States have slowed down in the first quarter.

    In the first quarter, Moncler SpA recorded a 18% increase in revenue, a fixed exchange rate increase of 17%, a further decline than that in the 2015 fiscal year.

    Quarterly revenue increased from 201 million euros last year to 237 million 300 thousand euros, better than the 222 million euros expected by the market.

    The Asian market led by a 32% growth rate. The group pointed out that the mainland's performance in the Chinese New Year and the spring and summer series was successful, while Japan continued to record strong growth. Hongkong was not mentioned, but the group said that all markets in the region had been growing.

    Luciano Santel Santel, chief business officer of the group, revealed that the price difference between Mainland China and Europe would be narrowed from over 90% to 60%. However, the group will not start selling price cuts from the new listing.

    He also pointed out that Chinese tourists played a significant role in boosting sales in Japan and New York.

    Asian market revenues rose to 99 million 500 thousand euros from 75 million 300 thousand euros in the same period last year, accounting for a further increase from 37.5% to 41.9%.

    Italy and other European markets registered a 5% revenue growth. The French and Belgian sales in the region were relatively inferior because of terrorist attacks. Luciano Santel also pointed out that the number of tourist flows from Asia decreased, especially in Paris, Milan and Rome, but Germany and the United Kingdom continued to grow.

    The group has implemented 15 new stores this year, of which 4 have already opened.

    E-commerce accounted for 6% of the group's revenue last year, and 3% of the brand self operated channel and the wholesale channel of e-commerce contributed about $3%.

    Moncler SpA chairman and chief executive officer Remo Ruffini Ruffini said in the earnings report that the first quarter performance and market performance were better than group expectations. The positive feedback from the development of the retail network and the non core category was particularly satisfactory.

    Remo Ruffini also expressed confidence that this year's group will continue to outperform the 2015 in the continued unstable and volatile macroeconomic environment.

    At the analyst meeting after the earnings report, Luciano Santel said that the performance in April and May was good, in line with the group's expectations and the trend of the first quarter, and that all regions were growing. However, it is too early to comment on whether the annual revenue can meet analysts' expectations.

    Moncler SpA (MONC.MI) reported 14.97 euros on Tuesday, and increased by 4.8% to 15.69 euros on Wednesday.
