China'S Cotton Planting Area Continued To Decline In 2016

Domestic cotton sowing has been completed this month, and most of the cotton producing areas have entered the seedling stage.

From late March to early April, the area began to sow in spring. Before the end of April, the sowing work was completed.

The cotton growing areas in the Yellow River and Yangtze River were affected by rainfall in April, and the sowing time was slightly delayed. In the cotton growing area of the Yellow River River Basin, the spring sowing has been completed, and the cotton pplanting in the Yangtze River Valley is coming to an end.

According to the survey results, the actual planting area of cotton in this year is around 41 million 500 thousand mu, of which Xinjiang is protected by target price policy.

About 27 million 500 thousand mu, a decrease of 4.21% compared to the same period, accounting for 66.4% of the whole country.

Because of the sharp rise in domestic cotton prices in mid April, Xinjiang cotton increased particularly, and the risk of replanting other crops in the territory was higher. Some cotton farmers who wanted to replant in the early stage continued to grow cotton, while cotton farmers in the cotton fields in the mainland did not receive enough income. The actual planting area of cotton was basically flat compared with the estimated value in April, and the area was significantly reduced.

It is understood that after the cotton planting in this year, the climate change in the main cotton producing area has become the main influencing factor. The early growth of cotton is obviously differentiated. Among them, the continuous rain and dust weather frequently occurred in the late April to mid May in Xinjiang. The mean temperature in Xinjiang was relatively low. In the early May, the temperature of the Tianshan Mountains along the Tianshan Mountains in Northern Xinjiang was affected by the continuous rainy weather. The cotton seedlings with partial sowing were affected by low temperature. The 10%-20% cotton fields had been rebroadcast, and the air temperature was getting warmer after mid May, and the growth of cotton seedlings was stable, but the output would still be affected.

In the southern part of Xinjiang, some severe wind and sand dust disasters were encountered, and some areas were severely affected. However, the area affected by the disaster and climate was limited. In the middle of May, the temperature in the southern Xinjiang was stable, and the cotton seedlings grew to 3-5 pieces of real leaves.

The climate in the cotton region of the mainland also shows the situation of north-south differentiation. The drought in some northern provinces has an impact on the early seeding process, and the Yangtze River Basin has more rainfall, and the overall pplanting progress has also been affected.

Due to the changeable temperature and the excessive precipitation, the poor soil moisture has brought about adverse effects on the spring sowing. The sowing area has also decreased significantly compared with that of last year. At present, 3-4 true leaves have been grown in the earlier cotton fields.

China's cotton planting area has continued to decline this year.

It will be difficult to guarantee that the current situation of the shortage of high-quality cotton will continue. It is estimated that the cotton price in the early years of the new year will be higher than 2015/16.

The rising cotton prices in the new year will have an obvious impact on the price of seed cotton in the mainland, while Xinjiang suffers.
