The provisional estimate of total sales value is HK $35 billion 200 million (7.7676, -0.0019, -0.02%), down 7.5% from a year ago, down 14 months, and the revised value of total retail sales in March is down 9.8% compared with the same period last year.

A spokesman for the HKSAR government pointed out that the overall retail sales in April decreased slightly compared with the same period last year.
However, sales of multiple retailers still recorded a significant decrease, reflecting the drag caused by the slowdown in the tourism industry and the prudent consumption intention of the public under the condition of poor economy.
The prospects for retail sales will continue to depend on the performance of the tourism industry in the short term, as well as the impact of the uncertain economic prospects and other unfavorable factors on the consumption intention of the public. The SAR government will continue to pay close attention to the retail sales performance and its impact on the overall economy and the employment market.
