The contractor, but a legal lawsuit broke out last week may make it impossible for them to continue to use the name "New York Fashion Week (New York Fashion Week").

According to the US website, an entrepreneur named Trisha Paravas claims that her company has the right to use the trademark of "New York Fashion Week", while WME-IMG and Council of Fashion Designers Fashion (American fashion).

The association, hereinafter referred to as CFDA, violated the right to use the trademark and demanded that the defendant pay her 10 million dollars in compensation.

According to convention, most spectators of the fashion show are invited professionals or media. In order to break the rules, Paravas founded a company Fashion Week Inc., specializing in various fashion shows for consumers.

The fashion show they held two times a year started in December 2013, called "New York Fashion Shows".

After attracting more attention, Paravas decided to rename its activities.

The prosecution document says: "Ms. Paravas is an executive with a MBA degree. She realizes that there is a potential project in her hands.

At the same time, she also realized that in order to increase the attractiveness of the project, she needed a new name.

Paravas claims that when she retrieves the trademark, she finds that the "New York Fashion Week" and the right to use the trademark "abbreviated" NYFW are not occupied, so she took the lead in registering.

At the end of 2015, the Paravas exhibition began to make profits and attracted a large number of CO sponsoring enterprises, including Ritz-Carlton (The Ritz Carlton Hotel), JP Morgan Chase (Morgan Chase Bank) and Dr. Pepper.

At the same time, Mercedes-Benz (Mercedes Benz) stopped naming sponsorship for Fashion Week held by WME-IMG and CFDA, so the fashion week was officially renamed "New York Fashion Week".

New York fashion week was founded in 1943. Since 2000, the industry has been calling its name "New York Fashion Week".

Paravas said that the duplication of the two activities had led to many misunderstandings, and that many of her designers and sponsors had lost her activities.

So she put forward a number of lawsuits such as trademark ambiguity, unfair competition and trademark infringement to the organizers WME-IMG and CFDA, asking the other party to make compensation, and permanently stop using the name "New York Fashion Week".

The US magistrate John G. Koeltl rejected Paravas's request for a temporary ban on the defendant's use of the name "New York Fashion Week" and will hold a hearing in August 4th to decide whether to issue a preliminary ban on WME-IMG.

A spokesman for WME-IMG declined to comment.
