STANDARD 100 By OEKO-TEX OEKO-TEX Testing Standard: New Regulation
At the beginning of the year, the OEKO-TEX Association released the latest STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX product certification standards and limit requirements.
The new standard will take effect in April 1, 2019 after the three month pition period.
Benzene has been listed under other items of residual chemicals for all product levels.
OEKO-TEX has started monitoring quinoline since 2018, and the current limit is set to < 50 mg/kg.
Four kinds of amine salts (see Appendix 5) were also included in the project to detect carcinogenic aromatic amines.
In the "standardization" process of the limited value requirement, < < requirement > is currently applicable to all limited values.

Over the past 25 years, OEKO-TEX's strategy is not to wait for legislation, but to play an active role in the field of consumer protection.
After the implementation of the above update, STANDARD 100 has met the requirements of the new "REACH appendix XVII CMR statute" (EC Committee (EU) 2018/1513), which lists 33 CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reproductive toxic) substances.
The regulation came into force in November 2018, but it has not been implemented since November 1, 2020.
In contrast, most of the substances have been monitored for many years in the OEKO-TEX standard directory.
Other new test items (Appendix 4, Appendix 6)
Under the "extractable heavy metals" project:
Barium limit < 1000 mg/kg (all product level)
Limit of selenium < 100 mg/kg (all product level)
Under the "other residual chemicals" project:
Limit value of highly concerned substance azo two formamide (ADCA) < 0.1% (<1000 mg/kg; all product grades)
Azo two formamide is generally used as foaming agent in the production process of foam, thermoplastics and epoxy resin.
Siloxane D4, D5 and D6 have recently been classified as highly concerned substances.
Limit value < 0.1% (<1000 mg/kg; all product levels).
From the current point of view, silicone related organosilicon, organosilicon finishing, silicone coating, silicone printing, plasticizer samples, soft and three proofing finishing samples are available.
Under the project of o-phthalate two (Plasticizer), new material two methyl ester of o-phenyl two formic acid was added.
In addition to the short chain chlorinated paraffin SCCP that has been monitored for many years in STANDARD 100, the chain chlorinated paraffin wax MCCP has also been included.
Under the newly added project "chlorinated paraffin", the limit values of all two classes of products are SCCP and MCCP total <50 mg/kg.
Newly monitored substances (Appendix 4, Appendix 6)
Glyphosate and its salts
Carcinogenic nitrosamines and nitroso compounds
Glyphosate products, the main ingredients of herbicides, have attracted much attention from the media during the 2017 and 2018, and have sparked controversial debates around the world.
By taking the action of "monitoring", the OEKO-TEX Association will pay close attention to such substances in related textile materials and will conduct more detailed analysis.
More stringent limits:
Free and partially released formaldehyde, Appendix 4 and Appendix 6: product level III < 150 mg/kg (currently 300 mg/kg)
Aniline (lysable and free):
Appendix 4 product level I:< 20 mg/kg (currently 100 mg/kg)
Product level II- IV:< 50 mg/kg (currently 100 mg/kg)
Appendix 6 all product level < 20 mg/kg (currently 100 mg/kg)
? three (2 chloro ethyl) phosphate (TCEP)
Appendix 4 all product level < 10 mg/kg (currently 1000 mg/kg)
Appendix 6 all product level < 10 mg/kg (currently 10 mg/kg)
The limit values of solvent residues (NMP, DMAc, DMF) in Appendix 4 are now consistent with Appendix 6.
Flame retardant products (Appendix 4, Appendix 6)
Four water, eight boric acid two sodium and medium chain chlorinated paraffin have been newly incorporated into the standard.
The limit is adjusted to:
Each substance is < 10 mg/kg; SCCP and MCCP sum <50 mg/kg; total <50 mg/kg.
Appendix 6: more stringent limits are set for o-phenyl two formate (Plasticizer), perfluorinated and polyfluorinated compounds, alkylphenols and alkylphenol polyoxyethylene ether.
For details, please refer to Appendix 6 of STANDARD 100.
The more stringent the requirements for residues in textile materials, the smaller their overall impact on the environment, workers and consumers.
With regard to the parameters "other VOC and diols" in Appendix 6, the pition period for special accessories and widgets is extended to March 31, 2020.
Through the above many new regulations, the OEKO-TEX association continues to provide strong support for "zero emissions of harmful chemicals (ZDHC)" and "detoxification action".
In this way, OEKO-TEX has enhanced the awareness of the potential harmful substances in textiles and has played a leading role in protecting consumers effectively.
