New York And London Men'S Week Is Fading And Glory Is Changing.
Looking back in 2012, when a men's clothing week was opened in London, the men's wear market was completely different from that of today: Street clothing has not yet dominated the discussion of men's wear. Men's clothing is popular for a while. Men's show and women's show are mostly irrelevant.
But today, the men's wear market has changed radically: sports shoes have become the focus of market attention. Street dress "new" has become the hottest topic in the luxury goods industry. The idea that men's wear and women's wear should be treated differently has been seriously challenged.
"Flow person" fashion is no longer the exclusive concept of students, and has become a part of the consumer culture.
In response, many well-known brands, such as Gucci, Burberry, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Coach, Acne Studios, Ralph Lauren and Bottega Veneta, have merged their fashion show for men and women, not only reducing costs, but also showing a more unified brand image to the outside world.
At the same time, many brands moved men's wear to Paris, including JW Anderson and Raf Simons.
After losing the support of big names, the fashion week in New York and London is less pathetic than the fashion week in Paris and Milan.
The men's fashion show in New York fashion week starts at the end of July, and data tracking company Launchmetrics says its media coverage is worth about 2 million euros ($2 million 290 thousand).
Looking back at London Fashion Week, the media coverage of men's wear shows a value of less than 6 million euros ($6 million 800 thousand).
In contrast, the media coverage of men's wear show in Milan and Paris fashion week is about 58 million euros and 49 million euros respectively.
When the market structure changes, the industry must make corresponding changes.
Now is the time to make London and New York men's week become history. They should belong to the mainstream fashion week to get more attention and influence.
This also allows the men's wear series that can not be missed, such as Craig Green and Charles Jeffrey, are now on the larger platform for men's wear show in London men's week, while promoting the popularity of women's clothing series.
Instead of putting on three days of men's wear in the February New York women's show schedule, making New York fashion week a long, boring and ten day event, it's better to integrate the men's show into a more compact seven day schedule to show the best fashion of American fashion to men and women designers.
These changes will also benefit editors, fashion buyers and other industry participants, who can make more efficient use of time and travel budgets and do not have to rush around as early as usual.
This year's London men's wear week is held in January 5th.
People in New York and London are still discussing the time of the fashion week and whether the fashion week is still meaningful.
So far, Alexander Wang postponed the fashion show until December, and the decision has not yet been followed by other brands, but the merger of men's and women's fashion week is a good start.
