    Hongkong Institute Of Science And Technology Develops Super Soft, High-Performance Fabric Lithium Battery

    Hong Kong Polytech University has announced that its research team has developed a super soft, high-performance fabric lithium battery that provides a more stable, durable and safe energy supply for wearable electronics, and can be applied to many areas such as medical health monitoring, smart textiles, and so on.

      

    The innovative lithium ion battery has an energy density of over 450 watt hour / litre, excellent flexibility, folding and bending to a radius less than 1 mm, even if folded more than 1000 times, its performance will remain the same.

    The general flexible lithium battery can only bend to a radius of about 25 millimeters, and the efficiency is only 200 Watts / liter.

    In addition, Li Tai developed this kind of fabric lithium battery with light weight and thickness less than 0.5 millimeters, and its charge and discharge rate is fast, the battery life is long, and the traditional lithium battery performance is equivalent.

    The research team of the University of science and technology adopted the new technology of polymer assisted metal deposition, which is a patent of the school. The highly conductive metals, copper and nickel, are uniformly deposited on treated fabrics, such as cotton and carbon cloth, and are made into conductive fabrics instead of metal foils on the surface of ordinary lithium batteries to act as fluid collector and improve softness.

    The deformation tests carried out by the team prove that the lithium battery has extremely high mechanical stability, durability and safety. After repeated folding, twisting and irregularly wrinkling, the battery lossless its voltage efficiency. Safety tests such as continuous hammering, shearing and needle piercing prove that the battery can provide stable power for electronic components, and there is no risk of ignition or bursting.

    The research and development in April this year won the gold medal and the two special merit award at the forty-seventh International Invention Exhibition in Geneva. The research results were published in natural communication.
