India Textile Industry Requires Retailers To Buy Clothes Locally.
The India Textile Federation (ITF) appealed to all brands and retail chains operating in India to purchase from home instead of importing.
The attraction of ITF comes from the huge growth of Bangladesh's ready-made garments.
"From July 2019 to April 2019, Bangladesh's overall export growth to India was 53% disappointing.
Although the government is doing its best to promote "made in India", "technology India" and incentives to create employment opportunities, Western retailers with branches in India and local brands in India seem to be purchasing goods from Bangladesh.
Prabhu Dhamodharan, the convenor of ITF, said that India textile cluster could provide better services to meet the needs of Western and India brands in terms of quality and competitive prices.
He further pointed out that products from inside were far better than products from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Indonesia.

Data from the Export Promotion Agency (EPB) show that Bangladesh exports reached a high level of US $1 billion 70 million in the 2018-19 fiscal year from July to April, compared with $701 million 560 thousand in the same period last fiscal year.
"A major contributor is already ready-made clothing," Dhamodharan said. "India has lost 750 billion rupee garmenting business to its neighbors."
That's not all.
The resulting impact far exceeds the unemployment rate of the entire textile value chain.
He said retailers and brands should explore possibilities of collaborating with clothing centers in Coimbatore, Rupp, Carlo, errod, Su and Ludhiana, and focus on local sourcing.
