Greenpeace Introduces OEKO-TEX Standard To Guarantee Global Textile Procurement To Achieve A Non-Toxic Future.
In 2011, Greenpeace, an international environmental group, released the report on "fashion poison" and began the campaign of demanding the textile industry to be fashionable in the world.
Greenpeace has shocked the industry.
There are 80 textile brands and suppliers worldwide, representing 15% of the market share. They have made a commitment to "poison" and promise to phase out the use and emissions of all kinds of toxic and harmful chemicals in the global supply chain and products before 2020, so as to achieve a non-toxic future.
In 2012, Greenpeace announced that it would suspend sales of its own textile products until the brand and suppliers could clearly demonstrate the unavailability and release of harmful chemicals in textiles and clothing provided in a pparent manner.
In 2018, Greenpeace launched a pilot project aimed at proving that it is possible to achieve "ambitious" detoxification requirements while producing textiles.
This also means that, starting in April 2019, Greenpeace will start with T-shirts, backpacks and other textiles, try new standards, and purchase goods only from suppliers who meet the new standards.
Greenpeace claims that the standard applies the best third party tools and standards applicable to textile manufacturers to detect and eliminate hazardous chemicals and ensure pparency in the entire supply chain.
The standard states that only textile products purchased from organic and natural fibers are allowed to purchase, and products need to be certified by Greenpeace customized STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX OEKO-TEX Appendix 6. All wet processes involved need to provide customized DETOX TO ZERO by OEKO-TEX status report, and finally OEKO-TEX OEKO-TEX will issue the overall compliance certificate, giving conclusions that have been passed or not passed by Greenpeace.
