US President Trump said 7 days ago that the United States and Mexico had reached an agreement on the issue of illegal immigration on the border, and that the tariff plan for goods exported to Mexico was suspended indefinitely.

According to the joint statement issued by the State Department on the same day, Mexico will take an unprecedented action to strengthen border enforcement to curb illegal immigrants into the United States.

In addition, the US and Mexico agreed that further actions would be taken if the latest measures failed to achieve the desired results.

Earlier in the day, Trump wrote on social media twitter that if the United States and Mexico reached an agreement, Mexico would immediately begin large-scale purchases of US agricultural products.

However, the content did not appear in the joint statement.

According to a statement issued by the White House on May 30th, the United States will levy 5% tariffs on all goods exported to Mexico from June 10th to force Mexico to deal with illegal immigration in the United States.

In the face of the threat of US government tariffs, President Lopez of Mexico then appealed to Trump in an open letter calling for closer dialogue and a solution to the immigration problem.

He also sent a delegation led by the Ministry of foreign affairs to Washington to consult with the US government on Tariffs and immigration issues.

Illegal immigrants have long been a hot issue in the relationship between the United States, Mexico, the United States and some Central American countries.

More than 130 thousand illegal immigrants were arrested in the United States and Mexico border in May this year, according to data released by the customs and Border Protection Agency of the United States. The number of arrests in a single month has reached a new high of 13 years.
