Nordstrom Department Stores Set Up Innovative Concept Stores In New York: Goods Purchased Elsewhere Can Also Be Returned Here.
Nordstrom Inc., an American high-end department store operator, hopes to attract consumers through their new strategy: allowing them to return the goods purchased elsewhere in Nordstrom stores.
Nordstrom opened a new Nordstrom Local concept store in Manhattan, New York this month. The scale of this store is much smaller than that of traditional department stores, and it does not sell any commodity, but provides various services: clothing and shoes repair, baby car cleaning, donated second-hand waste products and so on.
In addition, consumers can also withdraw or return goods purchased by other retailers through online channels, such as Nordstrom's rival Macy 's (Messi general store) and Kohl' s Corp. And even if the Nordstrom itself does not sell the returned products, consumers can still use the service.
Jamie Nordstrom, President of Nordstrom, said that for consumers and retailers, "return" is a pain point. Shoppers hope to have a simple way to deal with goods they do not want: "once consumers decide to return, they will hope that the process can be more convenient and better." If we fail to deal with returns quickly, retailers will miss a huge opportunity to enhance customer satisfaction.
"We are in the fashion industry. It is different from red wine. There is no such thing as getting older and fragrant." Nordstrom said: "if consumers do not want their products to be put on their hands for too long, they will not only be unhappy, but also increase the difficulty of re selling them. Every day of delay is hurting potential sales value, and also making it impossible for a potential customer to buy goods in time.
The first Nordstrom Local store is located in Losangeles, opened in 2017. At present, Nordstrom has three stores in this way in California, and plans to open another second Nordstrom Local in New York later this month.
This service is one of the latest strategies of Nordstrom to attract New York consumers. "New York has more shopping options than anywhere else in the world," Jamie Nordstrom said. "We sell things that consumers can buy elsewhere. Therefore, our service and interaction with consumers are the key to attracting consumers.
At the end of August, Nordstrom announced the key financial data for the second quarter of this fiscal year. Although sales performance was still unsatisfactory, profitability was better than expected.
