I believe you remember the SARS epidemic in 2003. It was a tough battle. At that time, a large number of medical staff were infected, and a medical protective clothing that could effectively isolate bacteria was badly needed. In April 6, 2003, a core R & D team composed of 28 people, after more than 20 days and nights of sleepless nights, successfully developed an effective protective clothing, which can be regarded as the key battle to win the battle of SARS. Academician Yao Mu, one of the team leaders who designed this protective clothing, is our Nantong people. In 2003, the outbreak of SARS broke out. At that time, there were no medical protective clothing that could isolate the SARS effectively. Many medical staff were infected. At that time, the equipment that could isolate pathogens was only military protective clothing, but the health care workers wearing protective clothing could work out about half a kilogram of sweat after 4 hours of work, and could not work at all.

What kind of clothing can not only prevent poison, but also let vapor go through it? Yao mu, who was in danger, joined a core R & D team of 28 people. Based on past research results, he and his team finally selected the PTFE film, which is the key material for making protective clothing.

In April 28, 2003, more than 20 new types of medical protective clothing developed by day and night were welcomed by experts. It was discussed at the conference that the national standard for protective clothing was implemented on the same day, which is never seen in the world. In the evening of April 28th, SARS protective clothing was put into mass production. In May 1st, it was delivered to Beijing Xiao Tang Shan Hospital for supply.

In addition to SARS, Yao Mu has been involved in many important projects in many countries. At the beginning of the founding of new China, the textile engineering profession lacked ready-made teaching materials, and he compiled his own teaching. When Hongkong returned, he was responsible for developing a new generation of military uniform and letting soldiers display the heroic posture and military prestige of the garrison troops on the Luohu bridge. Yao Mu's step forward should always go with the needs of the country.

As the founder of China's clothing comfort research and the makers of many industry standards, academician Yao Mu is proficient in all links of the textile industry chain. It has won the first prize of national science and technology progress, formulated nearly 20 national standards and military standards for textile materials and textiles, and published more than 180 papers. In the face of achievements and honours, the "textile encyclopedia" in the eyes of academia and the "Chinese textile materials" recognized by the industry are modest and indifferent.
