Benchmarking Amazon 17 Thousand Flat Giant Stores Will Become WAL-MART'S Operation Focus
According to foreign media reports, after many years of internal discussions on how to compete with Amazon, WAL-MART president and chief executive Dong Minglun (Doug McMillon) announced at a recent strategic meeting that the "Super Center" will become the focus of its operation.
Dong Minglun said at the meeting that WAL-MART would not win by building unprofitable e-commerce businesses or other independent businesses. On the contrary, the "Super Center" may become the core of the corporate network to help attract shoppers and drive profit growth.
According to the media, the "Super Center", which covers an area of about 17 thousand square meters and has a large scale, provides more than 100 thousand kinds of products, including groceries, clothing, camping equipment and TV. Customers can also buy medicines and other products and services needed for daily life. They usually open 24 hours and serve as community sites, or for walks and video scenes.
In addition, foreign media believe that WAL-MART has withstood the challenge to online shopping and the rise of Amazon to a certain extent. It is reported that the sales of stores and online stores that WAL-MART opened for the first time in the United States has increased for the 20 consecutive quarter. The company has increased the online grocery delivery function in the parking lot and reduced the price. With the decline of traditional retailers, WAL-MART's market share is growing.
At present, WAL-MART's revenue is more than two times that of Amazon, but Amazon's profit growth rate is more than WAL-MART. In 2018, Amazon's business revenue increased two times to $12 billion 420 million, while WAL-MART's revenue increased by only 8%, to $22 billion. Amazon's profits come mainly from its cloud computing sector and non retail businesses, such as advertising.
