Raf Simons Joins Prada To Open "Double Carriages"
Italy luxury brand Prada (Prada) has just announced that the famous Belgian designer Raf Simons will join the group and join Miuccia Prada as co creative director.
Raf Simons will take office in April 2nd. Prada said that the two joint creative directors are equally responsible for design and decision-making. The first series of cooperative design will be the 2021 spring summer women's wear series, which will debut in Milan fashion week in September this year. This is the first time Prada has hired a design director from outside for the first time in history.
Miuccia Prada said that the two sides have known each other since 2005 and respect each other very much. At that time, Raf Simons had been the creative director of Prada group's brand Jil Sander.
Simons said: "many practitioners are worried that the fashion industry is becoming more and more like an industrial industry, and it worries that this will have an impact on creativity. This is also a question I (and Miuccia Prada) have considered. We believe that such a cooperation can push the fashion industry back to the right track in this regard.

Raf Simons was born in Belgium in 1968 and graduated from LUCA School of Arts. He founded his own brand name Raf Simons in 1995, and launched another brand of Raf by Raf Simons in 2005. In June of that year, he joined Jil Sander, who was still under Prada, as creative director.
In 2012, he left Jil Sander and joined LVMH group's luxury brand Dior as creative director. In 2015, he left Dior because of "personal reasons". He joined the American designer brand Calvin Klein, who was in transition at the time, and was responsible for the creative strategy of Calvin Klein global brand in 2016.
But the cooperation between the two sides is not smooth. The response of Raf Simons's radical reform in the market is somewhat dull. In September 2018, Calvin Klein decided to withdraw part of the Raf Simons rights. Although the Calvin Klein brand continued to renew the offer to Raf Simons, the Raf Simons, who was dissatisfied with its creative rights, was rejected by the new contract and the two sides broke up. According to the contract, the term of Raf Simons will not be closed until August 2019, which means that the two sides have concluded their cooperation 8 months ahead of schedule.
In January this year, Raf Simons revealed his new work in autumn and winter in 2020 on the personal Instagram: the Runner sports shoes series.
In the past two years, Prada has been implementing its brand remolding plan, adopting a series of measures, such as store renovation, product upgrading and online business enhancement. In 2019, Prada cancelled the end of the season sales campaign, launched a full price strategy, and streamlined the wholesale channel to improve profitability and enhance brand influence. Thanks to solid growth in full price sales and wholesale channel sales, net sales in the first half of fiscal year 2019 increased 2% to 1 billion 570 million euros in the first half of Prada, which is in line with analysts' expectations.
In terms of marketing strategy, Prada has been keen on innovation and actively participated in avant garde arts and cultural activities. This has enabled Prada to win the "best eye Award" award of the annual luxury marketing innovation award of gorgeous year.
