"Amazon Jacket" Orolay: A Recycling Road For Zhejiang Jiaxing Cross Border E-Commerce Brand
In the huge chaos caused by the new crown virus epidemic, China's down jacket brand Orolay (Ou Lairong) is more fortunate than most small businesses trying to stand up again.
The Orolay brand was founded in 2006 by Qiu Jiawei, and is currently owned by Jiaxing Zi Chi Trading Co., Ltd., specializing in the manufacture and export of personalized and independent design of women's clothing. Orolay's products are mainly exported to Europe and the United States. Among them, almost all the US regional businesses are sold by Amazon, which accounts for 70% of the total sales. Last year, Orolay (Europe) was rapidly gaining ground in the United States (see "ornate ambition"): Canadian geese meet Chinese rivals in the United States. Relying on cross-border electricity supplier, Zhejiang down jacket brand is booming overseas.
The price of Orolay's down garments is between 80 and 160 dollars, compared with that of Canada Goose. Orolay's down jacket is called "Amazon Coat (Amazon jacket") by American local media, becoming the darling of American fashion and social media.
Last week, Orolay had 31 employees, accounting for 40% of the total number of employees. Despite the serious shortage of masks in China, Orolay can still buy enough masks for employees through local business bureaus and trade associations in Jiaxing. The Jiaxing municipal government has also cut interest rates on loans, offered tax incentives, subsidised and reduced the rent for its factories for two months.
During the epidemic, senior government officials such as Jiaxing municipal Party committee secretary visited the Orolay factory. Qiu Jiawei said: "this is a high degree of recognition and praise for the cross border e-commerce and export mode of the company." He believes that the company is still controllable under the epidemic.
Orolay, which has a wide reputation overseas, is lucky. Due to the isolation and travel restrictions imposed on the epidemic, other small companies that are not so prestigious are being seriously affected, and some companies even can not get enough masks to restore production.
As a pillar of China's economy, SMEs have contributed more than half of China's tax revenue, 2/3 of economic output and 80% of urban employment opportunities. Government data showed that as of Wednesday, the average output of SMEs in China was only 32.8% of normal level, while most production jobs had not yet been resumed.
Due to the shortage of goods, the suspension of China's business has also caused many overseas companies to feel restless, including many of Amazon's merchants, who can only wait passively for Chinese factories to resume production.
In contrast, Qiu Jiawei hopes to resume production this week, when the rest of the workers will be removed from quarantine and return to their posts. Although he was three weeks behind schedule, his goal was to produce 200 thousand down coats in the first half of the year.
Because the winter is coming to an end, he can deliver the goods later this year. He also plans to expand his business to men's wear and children's wear.
After the outbreak, he estimated that the cost of each down jacket would increase by 1.5 to 3 dollars, but he said: "we have no plans to raise prices."
