Relatively speaking, electronic fault diagnosis is also difficult.
"From the nature of software, the fact that more code means more bug is possible." However, unlike other electronic products, cars are highly demanding for safety, coupled with the constraints of intelligent network security standards. In general, the impact of these bug on vehicle safety is not significant.

Electronic mobile tools frequently prompting malfunctions
In February 19th, a month ago, Mr. Lu, who had just picked up the car, suddenly found several fault prompts on the control screen of the vehicle. Many automatic assistant driving functions showed "unavailable" or "disabled", and the energy recovery braking function also showed discontinued.
He immediately parked the car on the roadside, and telephoned the customer service of Tesla. The suggestion given by customer service is to restart the software system, continue to open it, and open a fault will disappear.
Mr. Lu said according to customer service, restart the system and drive on the road again. According to his recollection, after the car had been running for a period of time, the faults did disappear one after another.
However, just a week later, Mr. Lu's car appeared again in February 26th. He called customer service again, and customer service again recommended reboot. However, Mr. Lu said that after the restart, the effect was not significant, so the two sides decided to carry out inspection and maintenance by consultation.
This is the first time Mr. Lu's new car has been overhauled. After a week's test, Tesla's feedback is that there is no big problem, but the camera needs to be wiped.
According to the first document provided by Tesla, no alarm was found in the vehicle entry. The background data gateway also caused alarm. The gateway has been reset, the firmware has been updated, and many road tests have been normal.
Mr. Lu took the vehicle back, but it didn't last long. In early March, his Model X failed again, and this time it was more serious than the first two times.
In March 10th, Mr. Lu learned from his family that his car again prompted a number of alarms such as traction control, and even the gears could not be hung up. According to the analysis of people who are familiar with Tesla products, it is relatively rare and serious that it can not be hung up.
After contact with Tesla customer service, they said they did not know the reason, so they had to check again. Because the car could not start, it could only be called for second days by a trailer to pull the car over.
However, in the maintenance center, the vehicle returned to normal again miraculously. Tesla's second documents show that "this phenomenon is an occasional fault. When the vehicle enters the workshop, it can start normal operation, and the instrument does not show any fault."
In the process of fault analysis and related system inspection, Tesla maintenance personnel found that the pin of EPAS wiring harness was loose. After completely disconnecting the plug, the vehicle failure phenomenon was not helpful in EPAS MIA direction, but it could still start normally and enter the gear position.
EPAS means "electric power steering", which is irrelevant to the failure that can not be blocked. Later, Tesla maintenance personnel will loose the stitch recovery, continue to check the relevant system, but no obvious abnormalities, continuous road test also failed to jump out. That is to say, the reason why it can not be blocked is still unknown.
Cool thinking of intelligent automobile
In twenty-first Century, the economic report reporters interviewed relevant information and found that similar "occasional faults" occurred frequently in automobiles, some of which could identify the causes and others became unsolved mysteries.
Auto repair technician magazine last year published a case of Audi A3 accidental flameout and can not start after parking. The description of the phenomenon is similar to Lu's Model X: the vehicle suddenly flameout during the driving process, the engine, transmission and other warning lights on the meter are lit, and the ignition switch is turned off again to start all normal again.
The troubleshooting lasted eight months and three times, which eliminated the drive bus of transmission control unit, gateway and trans connection engine, transmission and related gateway. Finally, it found that the tie line located on the outer side of the left longitudinal beam was not fastened properly, and the tie point was the main point of connection between the engine and the transmission.
From the above cases, it is easy to find that accidental fault detection is very tedious. It is necessary to eliminate the possible reasons one by one in strict accordance with the maintenance manual, and also wait for the chance of occasional faults to appear again in the maintenance process. Tesla also said in the second document, "it is recommended that further tests should be made according to the rules of failure described by the customer."
It is worth mentioning that some professionals who are engaged in vehicle maintenance say that accidental faults often occur in the electrical control system of vehicles, such as gearboxes, steering systems (electronic control) and other electronic control parts (such as ABS, ESP and ESC). In other words, the higher the degree of electronization of vehicles, the higher the probability of occurrence of so-called accidental faults.
Roland Begg executive director Wu Zhao also said that from the nature of the software, it is indeed possible that the car will generate more bug. To a certain extent, it is similar to a computer. It is easy to operate, but has complex structure. Sometimes it will crash.
The head of a foreign component supplier also recognizes that with the development of automotive intelligence, this accidental failure will become more and more common. "Electronic fault diagnosis is more difficult, mainly as the responsibility of the electronic system, whether the host plant or supplier to make electronic systems, must be reliable." He said.
The further development of automotive intelligence will increase the difficulty of vehicle maintenance in the future. Besides traditional technicians, automobile overhaul will need to cover more talents in the field of software. On the other hand, consumers also need to deepen their understanding of intelligent automobile products and make psychological preparations for similar situations.
It should be pointed out that the vast majority of accidental failures are not particularly serious. Sometimes the alarm is not necessarily a problem with a part, or a simple "camera needs to be rubbed" and so on. It is not a real fault.
"Unlike other electronic products, the importance of vehicle safety is very high. The safety standard of intelligent network is still there, and it is becoming more and more stringent. Vehicle enterprises will not break through this requirement, so the impact on basic safety of vehicles is not significant." Wu Zhao said.
From a probabilistic perspective, most accidental failures do not endanger driving safety. Based on the strong correlation with the electronic system, the function of intelligent auxiliary driving may be affected. But the sudden extinction or lack of power in the driving process also happens occasionally. The result of general maintenance is hardware failure.
