Chinese herbal medicines and other natural plant derived products have potential applications in feed substitution. Lu Qingguo suggested that the Ministry of agriculture and rural development formulate simplified rules for new feed additives registered with natural plants as raw materials in the catalogue of feed ingredients, speed up the examination and approval, and set up special funds and other measures to increase support for the development of natural plant source feed replacement products such as traditional Chinese medicine, and encourage and promote relevant research.

"Replacement" is imminent.

According to incomplete statistics, 180 thousand tons of antibiotics produced in China last year amounted to 180 thousand tons for domestic consumption, of which 97 thousand tons were used for livestock and feed industry, accounting for 54%. According to a new survey released by the World Health Organization, if the action of limiting antibiotics is not adopted, the drug resistance disease will lead to ten million deaths per year by 2050.

In fact, there are calls from all sectors of society for the hazards and risks of antibiotics to the human body and the environment. The relevant departments of the state have also put forward the requirements for the use of antibiotics.

Against this background, in March 2019, the Ministry of agriculture and the countryside issued a Notice No. 194th, according to the plan of the national action plan for containment of bacterial resistance (2016-2020 years) and the national action plan for containment of bacterial resistance to pathogens (2017-2020 years). At present, 117 kinds of plants (Chinese medicinal herbs) and crude extracts have been listed in the catalogue of feed ingredients.

But the concept of extracting effective components from plants can be used to extract traditional Chinese medicine or extract effective ingredients instead of antibiotics in plants. The Chinese herbal medicine extract dissolves some of the active ingredients, and there are many insoluble ingredients in the residue. These ingredients can be extracted and separated by comprehensive utilization of the active ingredients extracted from plants, and the comprehensive utilization of resources can be achieved, and then the substitution of antibiotics can play a very good role. Lu Qingguo further pointed out.
