Ministry Of Commerce: Uzbekistan Holds "30 Day Battle" To Ensure Cotton Production

Uzbekistan's newspaper network reported on July 28 that Uzbek President mirziyoev presided over a meeting on the 27th to study the protection of cotton production under high temperature weather.

Mirziyoev said that in recent years, climate change has brought new challenges to cotton production, especially this year's abnormal high temperature, which has caused cotton production to encounter an emergency. All resources must be mobilized to explore potential, scientifically breed, select, fertilize, irrigate and control pests to maintain cotton yield. In the future, Uzbekistan will increase its textile exports to 9 billion US dollars, of which cotton production is the foundation. If we can't increase cotton production, we can't achieve the above goals.

At the meeting, chairman of Uzbekistan's Cotton Production Committee and Minister of innovation and development abdelahmonov introduced that some cotton fields did not produce peach or had little peach, and encountered more diseases and insect pests and diseases due to climate change, and put forward seven suggestions on breeding methods, pest control, and adjustment of drip irrigation to cope with climate change.

In order to implement the requirements of the president of Uzbekistan to ensure the cotton harvest, Uzbekistan will hold "30 day war" activities in all regions to ensure the cotton harvest with scientific methods. Mirziyoev also asked Deputy Minister of agriculture jeshayev and state governors and experts to go into cotton clusters and farms to teach them scientific knowledge and solutions.
