    The First Carbon Fiber Metro Train In The World Has Officially Been Put Into Commercial Operation!

       On January 10, with a clear whistle, CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CRRC, and Qingdao Metro Group jointly developed the world's first carbon fiber subway train, "CETROVO 1.0 Carbon Star Express Rail", which was officially launched on Qingdao Metro Line 1 and put into commercial operation. This vehicle fills the international gap in the commercial use of carbon fiber composites in the main bearing structure of metro vehicles, and leads China's metro trains to achieve new lightweight and green upgrades.
       New upgrade of carbon fiber train from the perspective of "five more"
       The car body of "Carbon Star Express Rail" is mainly black, purple, yellow and blue. The black carbon fiber seats, armrests and cab console inside the car are full of science and technology. Of course, the "black technology" of the "carbon star fast track" is far more than that.
       The car body, bogie frame and other main load-bearing structures of the "Carbon Star Express Rail" are all made of carbon fiber composite materials, which is the first commercial passenger carrying application of carbon fiber composite materials on the main load-bearing structure of metro vehicles in the world. Compared with the traditional subway, this carbon fiber subway train has achieved a new upgrade, and has significant advantages such as lighter and more energy-saving, more comfortable to ride, higher strength, less wheel rail wear, and lower operation and maintenance costs.
       Lighter and more energy-saving
       By using carbon fiber composite materials, the car has achieved substantial "slimming". Compared with traditional metal material vehicles, the weight of the car body is reduced by 25%, the weight of the bogie frame is reduced by 50%, and the weight of the whole vehicle is reduced by about 11%. The car body is lighter, running is more energy-saving, and the running energy consumption is reduced by 7%. Each train can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 130 tons every year, equivalent to 101 mu of afforestation.
       More comfortable to ride
       Thanks to the use of carbon fiber composite materials, the vehicle has better vibration reduction and isolation effects and can drive more smoothly. Active radial bogie technology is adopted for the first time in the field of commercial metro trains, which can actively control the wheels to pass along the radial curve, greatly reducing the "squealing" when passing curves. The noise of curve passing is reduced by 15 decibels, and the noise inside the vehicle is reduced by 2 decibels, making the operation quieter.
       Higher strength
       Compared with the metal car body, the carbon fiber car body has stronger strength and higher safety factor. At the same time, the bogie frame made of carbon fiber composite material has stronger impact resistance, more fatigue resistance and longer structural life.
       Less wheel rail wear
       The lighter carbon fiber body reduces the axle load of the vehicle, and reduces the wheel rail force by more than 15%, thus reducing the wheel rail wear. The use of active radial bogies also reduces the wear on wheels and rails.
       Lower operation and maintenance costs
       The wheel rail wear is less, and the maintenance amount of vehicle wheel set and track is greatly reduced. At the same time, the vehicle applies digital twin technology to build a carbon fiber train SmartCare intelligent operation and maintenance platform, realizing intelligent detection of vehicle faults, intelligent assessment of health status and optimization of repair system, and reducing maintenance costs. Through the adoption of new materials and technologies, the cost of life-cycle maintenance of the vehicle is reduced by 22%.
       Train "lightweight" iteration has taken steps in Qingdao Metro
       The "Carbon Star Fast Orbit" will be launched in 2021; In June 2024, type test in the plant and stability test of 4000km will be completed and released; From July to December 2024, a 6-month field line test will be carried out on Qingdao Metro Line 1. A total of 20 routine tests and 36 type tests will be carried out on the whole train. After the comprehensive test from the system to the whole train, the performance of the train has been fully verified; On December 21, 2024, it passed the expert review of online passenger carrying trial operation; Passed the third party independent safety assessment (ISA) on January 5, 2025.
       As an advanced lightweight material, carbon fiber has the advantages of light weight, high strength, fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance, and is known as the "king of new materials". In the field of metro vehicles, carbon fiber composites have previously been applied to non load bearing and secondary load bearing components, but the commercial use of main load bearing structures is still blank. CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd., Qingdao Metro Group and other units jointly tackle key problems, break through key technologies such as integrated design of large and complex carbon fiber main bearing structures, efficient and low-cost molding and manufacturing, full life cycle verification and operation and maintenance support, and successfully apply carbon fiber composites to the main bearing structures of commercial subway vehicles.
       Compared with the existing Line 1 trains, the carbon fiber trains are based on carbon black, with U-shaped light strips in the front. The blue and yellow lines on the body symbolize the waves and sunshine, showing the coastal characteristics of Qingdao. The seats, columns and handrails of the first and sixth carriages of the train are made of carbon fiber composite materials. The column weight is reduced by 50%, and the seat panel weight in the passenger compartment is reduced by more than 20%. The lightweight results are obvious. At the same time, the carbon fiber composite material is more comfortable to touch, especially in winter, and will not feel ice hands. Color jump is added to the plate cloth in the train compartment, and large ring lights are used for lighting. For passengers, they can intuitively feel that the train is more spacious and bright.
       The carbon fiber metro train has been successfully put into commercial operation, breaking the bottleneck of weight reduction of traditional metal material structure, realizing the iterative upgrading of lightweight technology of rail vehicles in China, which will play an important role in promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of urban rail transit in China, and helping the urban rail industry to achieve the goal of "double carbon". It will also strongly promote the development of the whole chain industry of composite materials, which is of great significance for cultivating new quality productivity of rail equipment and building a modern industrial system of rail equipment.
