2684 College Students In Shanghai Strive To Become Village Officials

This year, 3778 college graduates in Shanghai have signed up to work in the rural areas. The number of graduates is much higher than that of previous years. 2684 college students have applied for the assistant posts of Village Branch Secretaries (directors).

This year, the number of "three support and one aid" students recruited is 567, of which 359 are assistant posts.

The 7 to 1 admission ratio makes the competition for village officials more intense.

According to our understanding, in 2007, the "three support and one aid" program for Shanghai college graduates attracted 2092 new college graduates to register, and the number this year has nearly doubled compared with last year.

Since 2006, Shanghai has started recruiting fresh graduates to the 5 suburban districts and counties such as Chongming, Fengxian, Jinshan, Nanhui and Qingpu, and the 5 townships and rural grass-roots areas in Songjiang, Jiading and other suburbs, engaging in supporting education, supporting agriculture, supporting doctors and helping the poor.

At present, the number of university students who contribute their intelligence in rural areas has reached 683.

In 2006, 181 of the first 220 college students were willing to stay at the grass-roots level, accounting for 82%.

Many college students say that they are close to rural life for two years, so that they can enjoy their posts and hope to take root in rural areas for a long time.

Shanghai has officially incorporated the work of "three support and one support" into training the reserve cadres at the grass-roots party and government level this year, and has re adjusted the distribution of "village officials" posts. This year, the village branch (director) assistant positions account for 63.3% of the total number of posts. Within two years, Shanghai's collective economic relatively difficult village is expected to achieve one village and one university student.
